Flybarless Rotor Head Systems > Power consumption with vbar

Hey has anyone noticed now much power you need per flight with the vbar?

I seem to be using about 600mah per flight, 9min. I'm getting 1 extra minute of flight time with my 600N which is nice. I installed a 4800mah lipo today and after 4 flights recharged the battery and put in 2400mah.

Align 600N
Radix 600mm
YS50 - Hatori pipe
3x futaba 9255
1x futaba 9252
1x futaba 9256
ATG
Align 2-in-1 regulator (first gen)
Vbar with black sensor

How much power are you guys using with your setups?

I've noticed i'm getting an easy 30 seconds more flight time on my Logo500. Flybar'd flying for 4:30 mins i'd usually use between 3300-3400mah out of a 5000 pack. After going vbar I was using 2900 with same flying style so i've bumped the timer up to 5mins. I know I can get another 30 seconds in and be safe but i've always kept a buffer if needed.

Pretty sure he means receiver power, as in "what's the current drain that the V-bar has on a receiver pack?"

Yes I'm asking about the rx pack.

On my 600N with an eagle tree I used to get max amp draw around 1 amp, but after adding the VBar I am now get max amp draw around 2 amps. It pretty much doubled my current draw. The main reason for this is because the VBar is now constantly adjusting the servos, and the servos now have to drive the blades direct where the mechanical fly bar gave some assistance.
I am flying with BLS451 at 6Volts using a 3S Lipo with a Dimension Engineering Sport BEC.

Joe, can you report the capacity you use per flight so I can see how close my setup is to others?

Thanks

Here are two screen shots from my EagleTree log. You can see I used 80mAh with a flybar and 200mAh with VBar.

Wow more than double. I don't mind the increase but I don't remember ever hearing anyone talking about it. Thanks for the info.

My 600n uses 375ma per flight. It was 350ma before vbar.

Royrex,

What regulator and servos are you using?

3X Futaba 9452s. 9252 on throttle, 9254 on rudder, 2100mah lipo, Duralite 5.1v, Multigov, Chinese weights on tail. aluminum colored
Vbar system. SAB main blades, 92mm vblades on tail. Radix blades
work fine, but SABs are smoother and auto better.
Carbon boom and supports. 7 lbs. dry.

Beats me! 3 flights mild 3D and recharge on the Hobbico puts in
800 to 950ma. I do use a 2 cell lipo, it goes down to 7.2v
with 1 amp load. I think i will purchase an Eagletree
something or other and see if I can validate this thing.

Here on my personal 50

3 x 8717
1 x 9251
1 x 8700g throttle
rotortech 600mm blades
k&b dream design tail 104mm

it varies between 165 (hovering only) and 450mha (3d) per 8 minutes flight

In the winter with 9252 on a 90 it was up to 650mha for 10 minutes at around 10F or -12C the same heli was around 400 in the fall

That must be some think air where you live, eh.

I've dialed my P down a bit. Most seem to be 60/120 in Ultra for the 50 size heli. Will fly this weekend to get some more readings.

The 600mah burn per flight was also flying in +15 knot winds and damn did it fly nice.

hey , well each persons is different , but to base the flight off someone that is heavy into 3D. with a flybarless system you can gain upto 10% more power.
now with my 90 size heli , flybarless Joker 3DD , with a tail motor , the savings can reach over 40%. thats like adding a turbo to my actro 32-3, I seen reaction and also one long flight with a 11 lb heli.
just the tail along in heavy 3D can take away 1/3rd of the power from the head

Has anyone tried a 2s A123 setup and how does it work?

Any difference in the operation on the slightly lower voltage vs lipo?

At 500 ma per 8 min 3d flight, it seems you could get 4 safe flights before a 10 - 15 minute burn back to full capacity.

OBS!

Havent had time to check this myself, but from it came from Mikado, the new (with digital plastic sensor) combined with servo's like 8717 pulls ALOT more current then the old unit, Ralf didnt recommend using 5amp bec on a machine even because it would be too little.

Using servo's like BLSxxx is much better current wise.

I guess the new unit with higher resolution just update the servo's faster, making them pull more current.

(I have actually been suprised how little the old ones was pulling, I was using a 3.5amp bec on my .90 machines...)
