I'm using JR 811. Not so fast but works really good for 12 USD .

Thanks Guys. I'm thinking of changing my current servo to a Futaba 3155 and using a carbon adapter plate to mount it in the full size servo opening in the frame. The 3155 is less than half the weight of the JR8231 that I've been using and a little faster too.

Why would you use an 821 on a 50?

Poor choice. JR says not to use them on a 50, they don't specify what function. The problem is vibration, which the throttle servo gets the most of.

But if you fancy flying around trying to keep the head loaded so it doesn't explode for a full tank of fuel....

I've used 3155 extensively with very good results however I just installed a cheap HS65HB and its half the weight of a 3155 (about 9gr). For now its working VERY well (20 flights so far).

8717 or 8900?? Holy cow!

The only thing a hundred dollar servo does on the throttle is yank the throttle arm back and forth about twice as fast as the motor can respond to throttle changes.

Anything .2 to .15 is fine.

you want your throttle servo to be faster than your collective .

JR 8417 is a great choice for throttle. Not the cheapest, but torque (148 oz. isnt required) and speed is perfect for the application, espcially if using a limiter/governor.

take care, dont step on the toes today that may be connected to the butt you have to kiss tomorrow!!

you want your throttle servo to be faster than your collective

you don't need it.

Here's why:

The collective servos move from -12 to +12 (well over 60 degrees) while throttle moves less than 20 degrees in idleup. You can have a very slow servo and still beat the collective movement.

Anything in the 0.12-0.15 is just fine.

With a 0.06 sec servo you're doing more harm than good.

Add to that, the throttle is under 0 load, the swashplate under quite a load, coupled with what Tony said, and the fact an internal combustion engine can only respond so fast to throttle changes, it makes throttle servo speed less critical than some people make it out to be.

Consider this, in the latest version of the software, Aerospire did away with digital servo high frame rate support (well the option to enable it) because standard 50 hz update rate works just fine.

I run Hitec HS81s on all my glow helis. Inexpensive, small, light, works great.

you want throttle response to be quicker then collective

or else your engine is just playing catch up

try it the diferance is noticeable
I don't use a governor I don't need 1

no it isnt.

I had 9254 on all my helis and I always had something that one call define as "lag". During the disc unload phase (while the engine gets unloaded and the carb closed by the governor) the movement was so fast that the engine would load up with fuel. On the other hand, when you punched out with full collective, the throttle movement was so fast that the pression in the combustion chamber would drop as the air was getting in faster than the fuel making the engine hickup before going to full speed.

After changing to a slower servo (at that time a 9252) the difference was so big, I removed all my 9254 and installed slower servos. All the helis that used to have the hickup/lag problem now work like clockwork and no chasing.
