Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Need help with ys 50

I am working on a ys 50 that has been run hot and has a damaged piston. I'll be posting pics here and in another thread when I'm ready. I did notice one thing from the manual that I did not see in this engine. The manual has a blow up showing a head gasket. When I removed the head, there was no head gasket. I need to know if the manual has a typo, or if I am just missing the head gasket and need to get it when I get parts. Also, pics would be nice of the head removed and the bottom side of the head and whatever other pics of the disassembled engine people may have. And a few tips in taking apart the engine would be nice.

Thanks! That confirms one thing. Now to confirm a couple of other items.

youwill need to heat the crank case to get the liner out,
while its apart replace the rear bearing, the head gasket should come in the gasket set for the engine

after I heat it, what do I do to get the liner to come loose? Also, the engine is fairly new and wasn't totally broken in when it was run lean.

you will need a pair of grips that fit the od of the liner (not mole/vice grips)
when hot enough the liner should slide out
and don't forget some gloves as the case will be hot

if the liner doen't look to bad hone the bore and re-use it
use a brake cylinder hone for the job

and when its back together don't lean the motor to soon, leave it rich for a good while

interesting, I don't see a way at all to get a grip on the liner from the top. Its just below the housing.

o i c. I have os hypers myself. The ys belongs to a friend of mine and I said I would work on it since I work on my hypers. I have never heated the hyper to remove the sleave. I'll try first to remove it without heat and if that doesn't work, I'll heat it and see if I can tap it out.

i've needed to heat the 91 c spec to get the liner out
and the lad in my club had to heat his ys50 up quite hot to get the liner out
and ys spares are quite cheap compared to os

I just slid the ys liner out. It wasn't that hard. Some pics will be coming soon. So far, it looks like the sleave survived, but the piston and ring need replacing and I have to find a head gasket and maybe a new head.

real raptors and fast-lad in the uk do ys spares

the lad that rebuilt his ys50 had a piston/ring/liner and head for about £50

I'm in the US. Its not really feasible to get a head gasket from the UK because of shipping costs. The price isn't too unreasonable. I'm thinking I may need a new head also.

There was a head gasket. It was stuck to the head. I'm glad the head isn't damaged. I have a couple on the way.

If you need to get the sleeve out, put the piston back in along with the con rod.

After you heat the crankcase (may not be necessary, I recall mine came out without needing heat), drop a glow plug gasket on top of the piston, hook it in one of the ports, and turn the crank over. It will pop the liner out, no problem.

This part -- gets you a cylinder, a piston, and a ring, all in one nice, neat package:

Same thing here:

Ron's and HP both seem to be out of stock of head gaskets.

BTW -- that sleeve looks like crap with all those grooves.
