Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Webra 91 stable idle...

I have a normal grey head Webra 91 with ultramix carb running on a raptor 90. I can tune it right, engine stays cool, tremendous power, uniform smoke etc. I do not know if it applies to everyone or just me with my unqualified tuning. But I find with webra, in order to get it right you need to have to idle needle extremely rich (6-8 turn out), this makes the engine very hard to start. Engine won't start on first crank, I need to crank it once to push the fuel in, then pinch the fuel line, crank it again to fire it up then unpich the fuel line. If I do not pinch the fuel line after first crank, it will flood and won't fire no matter what. Once it fires up, I need to run the idle high otherwise it will stall. I am running the Webra with 15%nitro 20% oil powermaster helimix with OSA3 plug, I have tried Enya 4 before, but with Enya I need to replace the plug every few flight which I find frustating. Just wondering if everyone with webra experiencing the same thing. If not, could anyone point out my mistake?? I have tried leaning the idle to make it idle smoothly, but if it idle smoothly, temperature on the crank cover will rise above forehead temperature which I know is not how Webra suppose to run.

what do you mean above forehead temperature? like 90 degrees?that still is cool i would think even at idle, if you get it to idle good even at 100-110 degrees that still should be cool..if its humid or very hot were you live your engine temps can range 10-15 degrees at the same needle setting, and any ways how often is your heli sitting at idle? not very long im sure.id rather have it a little hot at idle and be able to use it then super cool at idle and be a pain in the ass to use.

dude..wheres my heli?????ama#902014

uwiik,

with ultramix cab the low needle controls from idle up to 70-80 throttle. this is why most have problem tuning webra engines. to avoid lean runs the low needle setting for idle will end up to be quite rich. This makes stating them hard and will not idle for long.
This is what I do with my Webras (75 and 90).

1- At the end of every flight ALWAYS clip the fuel line to kill engine don't use the throttle trim.
2- I crank the engine with the fuel clip closed. once the engine starts (wants to star) I open the fuel clip.
3- I leave the glow igniter on while carrying the heli to the flight line.
4- Pinch the fuel line till engine revs up and then removing the glow plug.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info guys..
I have solved the problem altogether. I was using hatori before, then I read somewhere on the net stating that if you could not get magic pipe, you better of using Mp2 rather than Hatori. I decided to give it a try, changed the Hatori with my unused MP5. Then all my problem just solved. I reset needle setting to 7 idle and 2 top, crank the engine and it just behave like a kitten. I ended up turning 7.5 turn out on idle, 2 full turn + 1 click on top to keep temp below 100 celcius after hardcore pitch pumping and simple flips, roll and idle up figure 8. It idle super nice, rarely flame out before flight and will idle four stroking all day long after the engine warms up. Really satisfied with the engine. Using powermaster 15% this engine beats OS on 30% hands down.....
