Has anyone used Wild Cat fuel for Helis? My local Hobby Shop carries Wild cat car fuel and he can get the heli mix but i dont want to try it if it is crappy fuel.

That's all I use, excellent results and cheaper in my area than Coolpower.

I use 30% in my X-Cells and 15% in my Raptor 30. I get very stable needle settings and long glow plug life on enya #3s.

Winger

I use WildCat 30% in all my machines. It runs great and I have had no problems with it. I doesn't smoke near as much as Cool Power 30% thank goodness. WildCat has 4% less oil that Cool Power 30% and to me that means 4% more nitro and methanol.

Here Kitty Kitty

Tried Wildcat for the first time last week... The YS Loves it! I noticed a definite increase in power and good (not too much...not too little) smoke. It has this clean smell too thats hard to discribe!

So far I like it ...I was a power Master user ...the Wildcat is always in short supply at the hobby shop and others raved about it... now I know why it disapears off the shelf!

Cheers

Wildcat Fuel

Tried Wildcat Fuel...Spent more time trying to get my engine to run half as good as Cool Power 30%

Took it back to my LHS and gave it away. I would say it was "Wildcrap" at best.

Cool Power 30%...once you go to the CP darkside...you will never want to come back...Cool Power for me.

I had poor results. I starting running it and I noticed I could not get it to run rich. Seems like the oil it too thick and does not flow well.... Anyway, I'm not slamming the fuel..If it works for you, great! I just did not like it...

Wild Cat Fuel

I am currently running Cool Power 30%, I was running Wild Cat 30
% for a year and half, until I started experencing mixture problems. What I was getting was build up of some sort of varnish, it was almost like I was running castor oil in my fuel. I fought this problem threw two cases of fuel, until I had enough and tried Cool Power. Since then I have no problems at all. But since I have switch to Cool power 30% I have had to keep some eye drops on hand all the time

thanks

Wouldn't richen up

I just helped a friend set up his Rap 30 today and he has Wildcat 15% (3 weeks old). We could not get the engine to run rich (Leo .37) had the high needle 5 turns out and it was still screaming and temp was over 275F. Pulled needle, checked for restriction etc, no help. Put in a tank of my 15% PowerMaster and it was way rich. Was then able to get it running good and rich at 2 1/2 turns and about 200F. I think his fuel may have moisture in it as his jug lid was not sealed well. I have seen same symptoms before on a plank using old fuel.

Not saying this is a problem with Wildcat but thought it was interesting someone else mentioned the same thing with not being able to get it to run rich.

Mike,
Yep, same problem I had! Was very frustrating... After some tuning (had to open the needles a bunch), I did get it to run ok in my 60's but not in the 30. I changed back to CP and all is well.

I have a rap30 with a Webra speed 35 with a weston pipe. I was running coolpower 15%. I changed the blades to nhp 580's and 70mm nhp's on the tail. It lost a lot of vertical power but was smooth and rolls were better than the sab550 carbons. Also it autos great now.
I switched to Wildcat heli 15% and it didnt like it no matter what setting and it did not like being switched back to coolpower.
I put in a second thin shim on the head and wow, a little tuning and it has much more power than the coolpower! It runs great and have no problems with the engine at all.

I also run it in my rap 60 with an os61wc and cm-pipe. it runs great, just have had to lean the midrange needle as it broke in. on fifth gallon with origional enya #3 plug. oh yes, i also leaned the main and its a rocket!

cant wait to run the last 2 gallons of cp to run wc heli15 on my tired first heli os30 engine.
shure will be nice to run one fuel on my 30, 35, 50 and 61 helis!

Wildcat rules!!

Howdy!!!!
I must concur with JETCAT... I love WildCat... I have been using the 15% 2/4 cycle mix, which is the non-dyed version of the heli.. I won't believe that someone had a needle out five turns and the engine was lean.. How far in was the low needle??? I have had NO problems with this fuel, except availability and I may order a bunch if I can find a commercial address to drop it at.. It's great!!! The smell alone is a selling point..

Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours

Purpose of this post?

osmax2:
You asked for people's thoughts on Wildcat...I told you mine.

JetCat:
"tweeker" thats the first time I have been called that. If your going to criticize people for name calling, you shouldn't do it yourself.

C'mon guys,
Lets not let this topic turn into an arguement! Jeeze we are only talking about fuel brands... Whats all the fuss about? I'm sure both fuels are good for differant people.... Like a Ford vs. Chevy thing (everyone knows Chevy's are faster....hehe).

People are so quick to argue sometimes......Lets all just agree to disagree...

Got to Love it!

Gang, I had to start laughing ...I came back to this thread to see how it was going and noticed, like a lot of threads on here that are opinion, it had again turned into an argument.

T Koffler, you made me chuckle when you said something about just talking about fuel.
Use to be... my list of taboo conversations in a public forum was politics, religion, chev vs ford (chev's better) and motor oil! Now I guess I should add model fuel to the list!

Keep it up, what a great forum, just don't drag it too far down!

Cheers
Bert

Words of Wisdom?

I have posted this in several places and I guess some of you are getting tired of seeng this. I switched from Cool Power 30% to Wildcat 30% for a very simple reason, smoke. At last years NATS, I had a model disappear into the smoke in the middle of a maneuver and after that decided to try and find an alternative. I was not unhappy with the CP performance, quality, or even the price, it always performed as advertised but did not meet my needs. After trying a couple of other options, I bought a case of Wildcat 30% with 18% oil which I put into the same motor that had 50 gallons of CP30% through it. When I put the Wildcat in and readjusted the motor to suit the fuel, I was not impressed, the motor was more difficult to adjust and did not sit still in a hover BUT it did make less smoke so I decided to run the rest of the case and then try something else. Now I get about 8 flights out of a gallon and by the end of the second gallon, I noticed that the motor was beginning to run better. By the end of the third gallon, the motor ran as good as before with maybe a little more power and reduced smoke.
When I thought about this it was pretty easy to understand. Wildcat uses a different oil than the motor had been broken in on and it seems to now run a bit cooler when correctly needled and it required a llittle running time for the motor to "rebreak in" to that new operating temperature. Once that happened, it was a no brainer.
Several of our local plankers have started using Hobby Town house fuel, which is manufactured by Wildcat, and I was hearing a lot of complaints about bad idle and high operating temp. I went over and reneedled the motors to more correct needle settings and both of the motors in question idled nicely and ran wide open with no problems. As the motors got more Wildcat time on them, the motors ran strongly and the owners are NOW very pleased with the fuel and its availablilty and price.
I bought a couple of new "big block" heli motors which I started on Wildcat from the beginning. Both motors ran well from the start as they never had to adjust to a different operating temp. I now have about 10 gallons through each and they are running fine with no unusual wear or bad characteristics. I am getting normal plug wear out of an Enya #3 and the interior of both motors is immaculate. I sent one of my 61s back to Performance Specialties for inspection and was told there was no unusual wear and that the bearings and ring were fine after 20 gallons of Wildcat.
If you are happy with your fuel, whatever it is, GREAT, keep using it. If not, try some others until you get what you want. I think I'm happy where I am.

YS Fuel 20/20

Anybody run the Wildcat YS 20/20 mix in thier YS 80s???? I ran it it my 61 ST2, but so far haven't tried it in my 80. I currently breaking it in on CP30%. I like the way engines break in on CP 30%; you can run them very rich and they won't die. Great for the first 4-6 tanks, especially for idling that 1st tank through. I will likely switch to WC 30% or the 20/20 mix in a couple tanks.

Thanks Guys!

I am going to get my Hobby Shop to bring some in. I like the idea of knowing exactly what is in the fuel-no guess work there.

20/20

Dirty, I ran 20/20 in my OS 91 with good results and would have continued using it except Wildcat came out with a 20/18 heli blend and I switched to that. They run almost identically except the heli blend makes just a fuzz less smoke and there is less oil on the model at the end of the flying session.

WC 20/18

GM-1; thanks for the input..... How much are you paying for the Wildcat 20/18? Do you think that 18% oil is enough for a YS80. YS recommends at least 20% oil........
