Have anybody have old YS91ST4 that is not running, I have try to bring back alive and it work!!!! Problem with my engine is, has been run too lean so the piston is blowup and I can not get parts anywhere so I order piston and liner set of SR engine and 2 gasket. Then I replace my ST4 with these parts I got, and reset all needle with follow manual of ST4. It work really well engine is real smooth is run perfect. please share comment if anyone all ready try.

Provide us with some extra info. In which heli do you use it?
Gearing, blades and headspeed info will be welcome as well.

Cheers

I have use on my trex700. I have change liner & piston from ST4 to SR and you have to use 2x SR gasket but you still have to use the black cover of ST, don't change it to SR red head.
What I do now is I running in the liner and piston, Engine is holding very very stable head speed around 1500-1550 rpm, can't belive at low headspeed the heli is like solid rock in the air, is like you hang something without string, presser from the pump is stable and very smooth smoke came out from exhaust.(use hatori for YS and 30% fuel) in this state I run as the manual tell you to start the engine 1st time, the engine temp is very stable is only run around 55'c - 65'c on the head and after 2 tank I have tune hover needle 3 more click and temp is run arond 65'c - 75'c on the head ( run at this stage for 2 more tank) for me I never let hover needle over 80'c. then you can tune highspeed needle but first few flight don't let it run over 95'c on the head you should get around
1900-1950 on headspeed with very smooth engine.
The imformation is happen to me. I not garantee for any damage for your heli but mine baby is fine.

Thank you mate. Maybe be one of the most important and useful topics, ever read. I am very curious to read your report, after the breakin procedure completion.
Furthermore, I like your heli !!

could it be that this modification results in an engine now larger than a 91? I am very interested to hear how this runs when loaded hard.

Best I could tell the engine now calculates out to .86 but, I suspect the compression ratio is higher if the need for two gaskets is to correct for a tall piston.

I would like to see a side by side of the two pistons to determine if the pin placement is the same on both pistons. Moving to a lighter piston could possibly lead to a balance issue, not sure if the piston weights are the same.

Very interesting though, I would guess this combo would suit a higher RPM range. Compression differences may make this combo feel more powerful overall. Since I happen to have a leaned out ST, I just might try this combo for myself!

Fly it like you stole it!

It will be smaller displacement because the piston in the sr is smaller diameter than the st.the cylinder must be thicker on the sr if it fits in the st case.

In this case, does it mean that you will get an engine larger than .91 if you use a 91st piston/ring/liner set in the 91sr?

#61 on the 700N list and Proud of it.

Hi

You will get less than 91.

The SR has a smaller piston with a longer stroke. So if you use the ST crank (therefore stroke) you get small piston with short stroke,,,,less displacement.

he wants to use the sr motor with original crank but with the st piston and liner.this(if it all fits) will be larger than .91 discplacement.beacuse the st piston is larger than the sr piston.
