hi all
i`ve just recieved my nice shinny cnc metal head it`s made for trex 450 so i know its mostly compatible with my blade, my question is should i use trex control rods or the blade ones, also it looks like the swash plate will work because it has the additonal screw hole so the anti rotation pin can be relocated and replaced with ball.

any thoughts anyone

use trex links with the blade 400 swash but change out the balls on the swash plate to fit the trex links also ur gonna wanna shave about an 1/8" off the top of the blade 400 shaft and use that to complete the setup. Hope this helps

head fitting

after much frustation trying to get the swash plate to move the right way ie down to increase pitch. i remember reading about fliping the blade holders, so over they went, this seemed to just about work, the finale mod was to flip the washout over so that was upside down also. this means there is no settings changed in the transmitter, apart from small tweaks and trims.....
overall a very good upgrade and head is taut and precise, and looks the dogs danglies.

You have to change your swash mix in the Tx.

Lets say you have +75 +75 -85 then you would have simply gone to -75 -75 +85

swash mix settings

i have tried changing the mixes so they are opposite and while the swash did move the correct way for pitch all the other cyclic controls where all strange ie forward stick put on left swash, and left stick put on forward swash.
maybe i should try resetting the trans` to default factory setting and trying again, cause somethings not right, when i change the mixes

After you change the swash mix go into the servo menu and reverse the servos that are incorrect .

With these two TX settings you shouldn't have any problems getting the correct cyclic movements

swash mixes

sorry for delay been away for weekend.
tried reversing the swash mixes this does move the pitch the right way, but the cyclic is all muked up, so i reversed the ail & ele servos this then mixed up the pitch so i tried reverseing that aswell. and now the servos are going all directions.
i still think that if i turn the blade grips, washout and everything except the swash upside down i can get it to work without changing any radio settings

Metal Trex Head on Blade 400

Hello everyone,
I am new to this site but i did read your posts and i just put a Trex head and tail on my blade 400. I flew it this morining and it flew great, after much frustration trying to get it to work. I had to set my swash mix to pitch -80 elev -75 aile -75 i know those are suppose to be postive if pitch is negative (i think) but i wanted to fly so i did and everything worked just fine in the air. i did however flip the washout and tried to flip the blade holders but i could not get that to work

swash mixes

so let me get this right you`ve got all the head components on the correct way up and you`ve now got 3 minus swash settings, ( mine at this moment is 2 minus and 1 pos setting) did you have to reverse any of the servos,( all of mine are now in normal setting).

apart from these small problems are you pleased with the upgrade?

i think the CNC tail is brill, nice and tight with the bonus of adding a little wieght to the tail to balance out the heavy flightpower batts

Swash Mixes

yes that is correct i have three negatives (no postitive) a couple of my servos are reversed cuz i have HI65MGs in it i could not get it to work by reversing any of them they all did crazy things and i could not figure it out for the life of me lol. I have never flown a Trex but after this mod i tottaly see why people buy them if they fly anything like this does with all CNC parts on it. I would have to say i am very happy with this mod only cost 50 bucks off ebay too! the tail is nice and tight with the 401 on it, it does not move at all. How did you get it to work with the postitive and negitives in the swash mix??

swash mixes

the pos and neg and the swash mixes is the factory settings, thinking about it now i have had a servo out and replaced with a specktrum one, i wonder if that could be my problem, at the moment i haven`t the time to instal the head as the weather is good and i`m getting 8 packs a day fliying time in.
i`ll try it all again monday night

servo

as an additional note did you need a seperate bec to run the hitec 65`s, i`ve heard they need a different voltage to that supplied from the stock esc/bec

Swash mix/ servos

I found out that it is just fine if the mixes are all negitive or positive.. eflit heads are backwards and Trex are how real helicopters work ie if the swash moves up it puts positive pitch in the blades and if it moves down negitive pitch (blade 400 stock head is oppoiste of this) I had to adjust the lower pitch links to get full travel for both positive and negitive pitch. my best recomondation for installing the t rex head on this is to keep your servos where you have them now for the stock head and just adjust the swash mixes and pitch links it should work out just fine (Servos) the servos work fine off the stock esc i did however have to cut the frame away with a razor knife to fit them in and then revese them in my controller but other than that i have had no problems with them and they have made it through some pretty wicked crashes lol
