Hi, I recently bought two Tp 2200 3 s Extreme V2 and I also have one 1 year and one 4 month old Align 2100 3 s 20C. These lipo is for my 2 T-rex. I have 2 questions:

1- I fly 6½ min. with each pack, similar routine (mild aerobatics) and I put back (aprox.) 1600 in the Tp and 1400 in the Align. The Tp is giving me a little more punch compared to the 4 month old Align (the 1 year old is giving me less punch but have similar recharge then the 4 month old). The 200 diff. in recharge, is it because the batt. is giving me more power (punch) and draining a little more?

2- The two Tp are more difficult to keep in balance (cell voltage difference) wile charging. One in particular is going out of balance (almost 0.060 v /cell between 1 and 3, always...) at first when the charger pump in 2.1 amps. Over time, (aprox 15 min) this diff. drop to 0.030 and at the "almost" end (const. voltage stage) it drop to 0.008. When the charger stop, the diff. goes back up to 0.12 and the balancer work a lot to drop it to 0.007 (my comfort level for storage). Any body seeing this as a problem batt.? My cheaper Align are far more stable and far older as well!

My chargers are TP-610C and Hobbico elite.

Thanks.

I had to re-read this several time to get the gist of what you're question is. The 200ma difference between batteries with the same flight time is nothing. You can't possible fly the same every time, and land the same time. If the batteries are way out of balance, first try charging them at .5 amp to bring them into balance, then you can charge them at a higher rate if you wish. I think you're looking for perfection when charging the batteries, I don't think 4 or 5 thousands of a volt at the end of the charging cycle is anything to be concerned with, but not sure what you mean my storage.
I have both the TP-610c and Hobbico elite. With the 610c it seems to have a problem keeping the thing in balance when charging at a higher rate of 2.2 amp for the 2200mah V2's. When I drop the charge rate down to about 1.5a I don't seem to have the problem.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

Thanks' for your reply. The Align are always within 50 ma/h from each other and the TP are always within 40-60 ma/h from each other. The Align are always 200 ma/H below the TP. I started flying the same to verify this.
I'm aware of the "start at .5C" with a out of balance pack, but the pack is not out of balance before starting the charge cycle. With the Align, I never had to start at below 1C charging. I also had the first generation of the Extreme a wile back and they were ok.
I'm not looking for perfection. I've been flying lipos for 3 years and to me, one of those lipo is looking weird.

I always charge at 1C.

Storage = overnight. I think it is acceptable to leave a pack at 0.007 of unbalance.

You answered your own question- the greater "punch" from the TP pack simply comes because it is capable of holding the voltage up under load better than the other packs. The electrons therefor flow at a greater rate so it takes more recharge after the same flying time.

If you had a good governor, therefore constant headspeed, and flew just as aggressively each pack, you might be able to match the total mAh used with each pack. But in truth, when you ask for more power (increasing throttle and/or collective and/or cyclic input), the TP will respond and keep the current flow higher. So average current flow is greater with the TP.

That is why going higher cell count will not necessarily increase flight time, but will give more power during the flight.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Thank you helimatt, on that question, I was looking for confirmation of my thoughts, but my second question (pack unbalance) is still bothering me. That one new TP pack ( I bought 2 at the same time) as a far worst time keeping things balanced. It does not heat up more in use and seem to have the same punch... Lipos need some breaking in but I'm way past that now, they should behave equally... unless the cells are uneven in the pack... you guys think my LHS should exchange them?
