Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Hot Clutch bell on xcell gasser

Hi Gents

Don't know if this is a problem or not, the clutch bell on my stock gasser seem to get very very hot, is this normal?, or does it indicate i have a slipping clutch. I do have a small problem with the tail wagging a small amount and i was wondering if this could be part of the cause. a minute or so after shut down i can put my hand on the zimmerman silencer and pipe but the clutch housing is still too hot to touch. I would have thought that once the clutch has engaged there would be very little energy to cause such heat apart from radiated heat from the engine.
If anyone can shed some light on the subject i would be most grateful

Cheers

Mick

I can't speak for the MA gasser but
your thinking is correct. Have you checked to see if maybe you lost
(ie. it fell out) the clutch liner and you
are driving the clutch directly against
the metal bell?

Either way, the bell shouldn't be
as hot as you say it is. At worst, it might
get warm.

a strip down is going to be the next step, i was just trying to confirm my own logic.

Many thanks

Mick, I agree with Z, if the bell is too hot to touch, then the glue/JB Weld that holds the liner in MUST be compromised. The tail wag thing just reinforces your thinking.

Just stripped the beast down and replaced the clutch bell and reset all the running gear and all appears to be well. after 10 minutes running i was able to touch the bell and hold my finger on it. Hopefully this will be the end of it

Thanks for the replies

glad that worked out for you Mick.

Did teardown reveal any obvious
cause for the problem?

nothing glaringly obvious wrong though there was 2 areas of wear on the clutch shoes so i suspect a spot of slipping was happening.
