I hear ya Chris. Those Outrage 3000 mah packs are a bit expensive right now. The Outrage 6s 2500 packs are quite a bit cheaper, close to the price of the equivelent PPRC packs. I'm going to try not to focus on the dollar per mah as I ahve in the past and just get what I want the first time around.

Thanks for all the positive comments! Here's few pics to show the progress of the build. I am very impressed with the kit so far. The manual is excellent and all the parts are top notch.

There is far more plastic in the head than I remembered. But it all seems to be very high quality. There are metal upgrades available, but I don't expect to need those for a while. The head assembled very cleanly and the operation is buttery smooth. The radial arms have bearings in them, something that normally gets sloppy when its only a pin in a hole. There seems to be metal where it needs to be and plastic only where it won't affect the head operation.

The scale of the heli is a little hard to get used to. Just when I was getting comfortable with the massive size of the blade grips, I pull out the flybar and find its about as long as my HBK2 blades. Rumaging through the parts bags I passed it up thinking "naw, that couldn't be the flybar, its way to big".

The gyro came today. It was a long wait for that one, about a month. I knew it would be, so I timed the pre-order to arrive about the same time I got the heli.

Next up is the servo install

Gregor, for the nut that holds the jesus bolt on the head is crap. You will strip your screw out when you try to remove it. Find a regular nut the same size, but make sure it doesnt have that plastic bonding stuff on the inside. You will like it

Finished the build of the kit today. The servos, the esc and motor are in. The packs and the upgraded tray for the gyro and the Rx should be here by next weekend.

Its more stable than the HBK2 so it should fly fine in the garage But just in case, I'll be standing outside the garage.

Really cool Gregor,

I hope to pick my Rex500 up in a couple of weeks so am following this thread closely.

Tell me something though, if you could send it all back for a full refund would you get another Rex or wait for the Vibe 500E ?

Here is how I look at things. My Protos is running standard "500" stuff. I only have $230 in the airframe, motor and blades. So if for some reason I want a Vibe 500E or Logo400 or Rex500 ... I can buy one, move everything over and sell the Protos airframe with very little money lost
