50 Gasser

You can also download the Zenoah engine manual for the engine dimensions,i am pretty sure they are the same as the G231PUH.

50 Gasser

I think the 20 is the smallest. The main thing is if the engine will fit between the rails of the frame.Be worth checking into this before you buy the engine.I dont know how much difference in size there is between the 50 and 60 size Raptor.I would research this well before you splash out on a motor.Do any of your flying friends have a 60 or 90 to compare.

yea a few of them. i take measurements off there heli engine mounts before i fully get start. i would suck to spend $300 on a motor and have no use for it.

hi
i did the Align 600G conversion last winter with a Zenoah G-20 ei , here is a link to the thread , which should give you a good idea as to what will be involved
the raptors use MOD 1.0 gearing , which will be easy to find , but the plastic frames will probably need to be replaced as the G-20 is quite a bit bigger than a nitro 50 , the other option is to use a Raptor 90 or 60 and run smaller blades ( R-90 to 50 conversion ), there have been quite a few R-90 conversions and you should be able to find out quite a bit of info on them with a search ,HTH , dana

Wow I'd love a Raptor 50 gasser.

One mile of road will take you one mile. One mile of runway will take you anywhere in the world.

When you check out your friends heli dimensions remember that the 20 motor does not use the original engine mounting points(see copperclads pics)it is mounted end on with the pull start below the main lower rails, with the crank vertical and head horizontal with the head facing either towards the front or rear.(cant remember which position tank is in on the Raptor)

The Raptor 50 has been converted before, from what I can remember it was converted for AP work but it didn’t look anything like an R 50 when it was finished.

Like Dana said the 600 makes a nice 50 size gasser plus the work has already been done for you

Good luck and keep us posted.

I've been watching this thread for a couple of days now and you all have my interest. I read early on in the thread this conversion was done on a Raptor 90 previously. I've been searching for this thread or any information on the 90 conversion with no luck. Anybody know where I can find the 90 conversion info or whoever did it?

Please PM me with any 90 info so this thread on the 50 does not get highjacked.

Thanks,
Peter

Raptor 50

I have just been looking at the build up of the Raptors, the way they are designed the only way looks to be a complete new chassis from scratch.Looks like a job for the most dedicated converters.I can see what Fixit meant when he said the 50 that had been done bore little resemblence to the original. Not the sort of work to take on if you are not a confident converter.

Im sure i did once see a gasser engine somewhere that had been designed for a heli that had the same crankcase as a 70/90 glow.Dont know if they were any good or still available.Has anyone else seen one of these?

hi shawmcky

webra had a gasser that was a disaster , if you could get it to run it would over heat

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/...light=webra+gas

and there is a BME super tiger gas conversion , but as i recall overheating was a problem with it too

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/.../?highlight=bme

the nitro engines count on oil cooling ( air and oil cooling ) , and when they are converted to gas the fins are not up to the air cooling task , gas engines run a much lower oil content in the fuel and count on air cooling ( fins are much larger and a larger fan ) , dana

hi shawmcky
you pegged it with the frames need to be completely redone , so the R-60 and R-90 are better suited to converting , the R-50 with the plastic frame would be a problem

it would be cool to have a 50 sized gas engine that was purpose built to replace a 50 nitro , i would be happy with less power even , if it was drop in compatable , then a R-50 gasser would be in sight , dana

there have been a bunch of 4-cycle conversions also , they run into the same problems of gearing and low power , and cooling issues , as the gas conversions , but the sound is to die for
