im been doing alot of research on these three helis and so far, from the very few reviews ive read about the hawk IV and reviews about the raptor, and nexus, the Hawk IV seems best. It is low cost, reliable, and pretty high quality (of course not compared to something like an x-cell). Anyway, my question is, it seems so much better and cheaper, y dont you see alot of people using them like you do online with raptors or nexus. It also seems that many go with the nexus because of the cost, but isnt the Hawk IV cheaper?

(i know its long, but thanx for your time reading this...)

I'd stay away from the Nexus...

After having mine for 4 years. Yeah they're cheap, easy to get parts for etc. etc. But they don't compare to the other two, based on my limited knowledge however, (but based on setup and capability out of the box). Raptors I know nothing about except they have quite a cult following, and I've heard nothing but good about the newest generation of Century heli's (all models) albeit mixed reviews on the distributor Helicopter World. I'm seriously considering the Century Falcon SE or Raven. Sorry I couldn't be more of a positive help, but I try to do my best to steer people away from the Nexus (standard at least) based on the many other higher quality 30's out there.

Just my not so humble opinion,

Jerry

The Raptor sure seems to be a popular kit, but after ignoring the Century line for years, a local fellow asked me to set up his Hawk 4 in the fall of 2001, and I was impressed at the quality of the machine. I was looking for another helicopter for myself, and after a lot of research, I bought the Falcon SE2. The price on these helicopters are quite reasonable, and after building the Falcon, I was very happy with the way it was constructed. The Hawk and Falcon are quite similar, except for a larger engine in the Falcon line. The Hawk 4 comes with 31 bearings, not too bad. As far as flying goes, the Hawk I flew seemed great, except we were having a few engine problems that day. I don't know about the newer Nexus line, but I set one up for a fellow in the summer of 2000, and I didn't think it was a good machine. It seemed to drift all over, and even though the servos weren't top of the line, I thought it should fly better. My advise would be to either get the Raptor or Hawk.

Agreed, go with either the Hawk or the Raptor. Skip the Nexus. I started out with a Hawk SE (which is 53BB) Loved it. Verry tight ship. Was very nice, slop free, well designed IMPO. Flew very well and came with a nice set of FG blades. There is one drawback to the Hawk line though. The tail is a wire drive settup. And IMPO it sucks. I up-graded mine to a torque tube drive tail, and it rocked. I really needs no other upgrades at all. Except for the basics that you see one everyone elses helis. I.E. header tank, head button, and of course a remote glow attaptor. And thats about it. I am now flying a Raptor and Iike it alot as well. But mine is a poor example of a Raptor, becouse I built it with about every up-grade that was available. So in essence it is not really a Raptor at all (according to my fly buddies) But everyone at our field has one, so I figured why not. I would suggest that you check with the pilots in your area, as well as parts availability locally. If you see 80% Raptors, then go Raptor. Same for the Hawk. If there are a lot of Hawk pilots arround your area, then Go with a Hawk if you really like the ship. More people flying your type of model will just make problem solving that much easier. But both are great ships IMPO. Hope that helps.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

AGREED. Forget about Nexus.
I've been flying Nexus, Raptor, HawkIV , Hawk SE w/Bell222 and Falcon.
I used to be a Raptor fanatic, but since I tried the HawkIII, I really like it, it's easy to build and it flies very well, whether for a beginner or an expert.
It has an excellent rotor head, it's a copy of Xcell but smaler size.
I like the idea of Century keeps improving the bird, it can only get better and better.
Plus. Next time when you decide to have a nice fuselage, Century has them all, and they fix Hawk with no problem.

Hawk? Raptor? Nexus?

Hi

I have both the HawkIV and SE both are great! I've beaten my SE up
and for the low cost of the replacement parts it keeps flying!!
The Hawk IV would be the way to go if cost is your first concerne.
If not the SE would be the way to go. Maybe get a set of woodies and set the glass blades aside for later. More and more flyers at the club are going for the Hawk's, local support is great and using the net part's are never more than a few days away. Have a look at this
sight for some more info http://www.rchelicopters.org/

Which One

Forget the Nexus. It is cheap, and you get what you pay for.

As for the Hawk and the Raptor... And I am no trying to start a war here. This is just my personal opionion based on my own personal experience.

I have owned a Hawk II that I bought brand new. It went together well and it flew pretty good (not great, but not bad by any means). Then, due my own dumb thumbs, I crashed it. Here is where the real problem comes in with the Hawk...

I went to my local hobby shop and found only one of the needed parts in stock. The owner said it is very hard for him to get parts from Century (AKA Heli World). It was funny, but he had a ton of parts for the Hirobo Shuttle and the Thunder Tiger Raptor. I went to the other hobby shop in my area only to find they had zero parts for the Hawk. He too had a ton of Shuttle and Raptor parts in stock. I drove about 50 miles to another hobby shop that carries helis, only to find they did have Hawk parts, but none I needed.

Next I tried calling several different mail order hobby shops. Guess what I could not find any one that had all the parts in stock. Sure, I could by one from this shop, and one from the other shop and one or two from this other shop and then one from a different shop... But then I wind up paying like $6 extra for shipping from each place I order from.

Then I tried calling Heli World. Now since this is the retail part of Century, you would expect that they would have the parts. Guess what. The only had about half. The rest were back ordered. Since I did not have any other choice I back ordered the parts. After a month, the parts had not arrived yet. Another month went by, still no parts. Another month, guess what? No parts. It took me six months to get my heli back together. Talk about crazy.

I found out on the message boards that I was not the only person who was having a problem with parts. There were lots of people who could not fly due to lack of parts.

Once I got the Hawk back togeter I sold it. I thn bought a Raptor. The Raptor flew great with no problems. Sure I crashed (again, my own fault). But I could ALWAYS find parts in stock at my local hobby shop. Also, since lots of other guys were flying Raptors, I was able to learn tricks from them and compare set ups. No one else I have know has owned a Hawk.

Bottom line. Hawk is ok. But all things considered, the Raptor is much, much better. Especially since you can walk into just about any shop and find the parts you need. -Steve

Hawk or Raptor??

Hi Hughes

Could you give an idea when the parts shortage was???
This is the same reason I gave up on my Raptor! The distributor for TTis
about 30km from where I live and parts were never to be seen! But this
was about 2 years ago the avalibility has improved a lot since then. As for the Hawk, I've never waited more than a week for parts.

My LHS started carrying the Century line when they first offered the Hawk.
I got one and there are many Century choppers flying in this area as well as other types.
Always been plenty of parts at the LHS for me to keep mine going.
Just had to get some parts yesterday to fix an oops. Seemed like every possible part was on the wall.

I like the Hawk over the Raptor as I like the clutch and head better.

The Falcon 50 SE now comes with the CF tail drive (two bearing support) as stock.

conclusion?

of course... i had long since disregarded the nexus. after all the posts and reviews, i can tell from other peoples experiences that the quality is bad.

So anyway, i guess that the reason the raptor is more popular (or seems so) is that raptor gets its parts around faster and to more LHS....... right?

Hawk

Some of you here have heard this from me before, my vote is the Hawk I've had several 30 size helis and I'm "VERY HAPPY" with the Century Hawk. I'm looking forward to the spring when the Century Bell 47 comes out. Charles

I'm learning on a Nexus.. It was a fine machine to my understanding in it's day.. .I like it because parts are relativley easy to find and relatively cheap. I just bought a tricked out combo from Heliproz on a Raptor 30, and will save that for life after the Nexus. The Nexus is not a bad machine, just somewhat dated.. IMO..

All three will teach you to fly. The Hawk IV is more dependable so it will do so with less frustration.

The Hawk II and III were very nice but the new Hawk IV is far better then the old version II and with further refinements on the III.

Check out what Hawk IV owners have to say about them on :
