Gasser Model RC Helicopters > Converted Robbe Gassers versus Spectra G

Hi guys,

How does the extreme 3D flying performance of the converted Robbe gassers (Nova Cuatro, Futura, Millenium, Dyna-X) compare to the M.A. Spectra G.? Is the Spectra G more capable and perform better 3D extreme flying than the converted Robbe gassers.

I saw a video of a coverted Robbe gasser on youtube and it didn't appear to be capable of flying extreme 3D maneuvers. So if you have a Robbe heli that is converted to a gasser. Can you please let me know of its extreme 3D flying capability.

I think you might find it difficult to find a Gasser that will do "Extreme 3D" efficiently.

I own a Robbe Futura Nova, converted to a gasser, but I personally can't fly extreme 3D, no matter what the machine is capable of. I also fly Robbe Futura's. To me, the gasser has that solid, locked in feel of the Futura that I like so well.

It seems strange to me that you would try to draw a conclusion on the 3D capabilities of an entire family of machines from a video where 3D was not even attempted. : )

I have seen gassers perform 3d on numerous occasions and I did not base my conclusion on a video. My friends who fly gassers, along with my witnessing them fly 3d, I come to this conclusion: Gassers can perform decent 3d, but not extreme 3d. Gassers advantages are the long flight time, very low cost of operation, long engine lifespan, able to lift considerable weight and stability, perfect for photography platforms.

It is just plain cool to be able to buy 5 dollars in gas and fly all day!

Unfortunately, I got to witness a spectra G gasser have a nasty crash this weekend. Apparently a pitch arm broke loose causing the crash.

rtom,
I have both an Xcell graphite gasser (not the Spectra you asked for..) upgraded with all the parts available from a PRO IIK, and a Futura SE gasser.
They both fly aerobatics well but being elegant doing it.
The Xcell has 710mmm Mah blades and the Futura has 810mm Mah's
Xcell weighs 6.3 kilogramm and the Futura 6.5 which is the reason these heli's fly graciously And that's what I like!

Why would you Bill?
My Hughes got the gold mechanics too and is right hand rotation.
Look in my gallery to see which gears it uses. It has the upgraded bronze (50teeth) gear.

Well, my bronze gear gets really hot, Haven't looked into just yet, may be bad pinion bearing.. The left-hand rotation would not put as much pressure on the little pinion bearing..Plus the hughs is left rotation too..Seem like the thing to do...

I see I still have the plastic bearing holders where your is metal..that may help dissipate heat better..

Bill,
To be honest, that's the pic from my Futura SA.
My Hughes has the plastic bearing holders, just as yours.
I had isseus with the brass gear once too, and solved it with just a dab of Titan grease. The problem was that the brass gear was wearing out very quickly, which made golddust allover the mechanic's
Do you have the 10tooth gear driving the brass gear?
And do you have a little slack between the 10 and 50 tooth gear?

I have what come with it...It does seem tight.. I had put grease on it, but it cooked it... the pinion bearing must be to small...
I was only sent the brass gear, is there a different cut pinion perhaps?

Not specific a different cut, no.
The stock gear was a white nylon one.
And for heavy helicopters there's the brass gear as an upgrade.
...
Something is defenately not right then, it never should be a tight fit.
Count the teeth of the small gear if you will, which is supposed to have 10teeth.

Its a 10 tooth..I did try to spin it higher, and heard some kind of slack, but not in the gear teeth, it sounds like the shaft has been spinning in the lower bearing race...that would do it..

I'm just going to have to take it down and inspect it...BTW, this engine is a Kalt Zenoah, still has the original sticker..It was the best stock engine Zenoah made at the time, and it is real smooth, because kalt done what needed to be done to make it right back then...
Is yours a kalt Zenoah too?

Yep, that would heat things up.
Tear it apart so you can see what is happening.
I think your almost there...

Oh NO!
in my 2 Robbe heli's I have Zenoah G230puh's and in my Xcell an G231puh.
I had a G22 (the Kalt engine)in the xcell before the g231.
It was an engine which gave me troubles and has a lot power less than the g230.
It has ignition points too, I had replaced these with an module at the time, which resulted in a lot less inteference.

My Kalt engine k22 was ruff when I first cranked it, but I knew what the problem was...I went thru 5 167 carbs till I found a good one, and it has run smooth ever since...
I just wanted to keep it as factory as possible...
Thanks for the info
