If you are talking about the ones that go on the spindle, those are called dampers. I'm using the Align Trex 450 (v1 head, make sure you get the ones for the v1 head). They are a little larger but still fit fine. Be sure to lube them up good before installing.

This is so weird,
I was gonna post this exact question this morning
but I figured I would just sort it out myself.

I was doing a search on the web for belt cp 2 just to see what came up,
and found this post.

Anyhoo I ordered some this morning,
will these work

you may have to cut them,but them you can custom adjust the hardness.does anyone have a pic of the actual head in question?

This is the best view I could find,
too lazy to take a pic and upload it.

Also,
what does the hardness affect.

Could you represent it in a scale?

Soft=______
Medium=_________
Hard=_________

And
which skill level would be associated with each.

the hardness affects your cyclic response,the stiffer the dampers the faster the head responds,also worn or soft dampers can allow boom strikes

Ok,
I will show my newness again.

When people say cyclic,
are they talking about the overall mechanism of altering blade pitch?

More info on dampers. Long but interesting read on the topic. Explains a bit about relationship between the advancing/retreating blades and the dampers.

Also touches on the floating head setup most of use vs a flapping head setup.

Cyclic=right stick
Collective=left stick, up and down only.

no thats your collective(blade pitch),cyclic is the way a heli moves left and right or for and aft or your right stick controls

OK,
then it makes sense that it would affect that.

So they are like shock absorbers.

So they are like shock absorbers.

Sort of, but not in the automotive sense. They alow the rotor controlled freedom of movement. Because of the difference in lift between the advancing and retreating blades, the rotor will have a slight tilt. The dampers provide the head flexibility to cope with this imbalance.

They also provide a dampened effect between the pilot's input and the heli's response. With more damping (softer dampers) the heli is going to respond more slowly and smoothly to the pilot's cyclic inputs. With a harder damper, the heli's intial response will more crisp and imeadiate.

The other things I notice with my HBK2 is that with a softer damper it seems like I have to give LESS input to get the same cyclic response. However there is a slight delay in the response. With a harder damper, I have to move the stick more to get the same response, but there is less delay. The heli tends to follow my inputs more immeadiately even though more stick movement is required.

In wind, the soft dampers alow the rotor disc to get tossed around quite a bit more. You can hear the rotor chop more and have work harder to correct from wind gusts. The harder dampers make my heli track more consistantly in wind. There's less rotor chop and less need to correct the flight path.

Yeah I went through that link,
it's all so clear now...lol.

The heli hobby has been the source of so many epiphanies for me.

Here's another one of my favorites. Ever wonder why RC helicopters have flybars? If so, check this out.

I got the ones I showed above.

I had to cut one in half for it to fit,
which works because now I have twice as many.

Got them installed,
tested in hover.

They are really responsive, and I like it.

Although they are so tight that the feathering shaft doesn't seem to move at all,
whereas before I could manually wiggle it pretty easily.

So this leads me to ask the question,
Can they be too tight?
If so,
what are some side effects?

No negatives as far as I can tell. Here is my version of "Doug's windshield wiper hose dampeners": I make them out of clear pinkish-orange 1/4 o.d. x 1/8 i.d. fuel hose available at auto supply stores. Get several feet and start with some sharp scissors or shears; start cutting donuts approx 1/8" thick. After cutting 10 or 15 pieces, you will make several near perfect ones. They will be a bit difficult to wedge into the Esky metal head at first and the spindle will also be difficult to install. Once I get these new dampeners in (I've even needed a small screwdriver to pry them in) I put the spindle into a cordless drill and kinda 'drill' the spindle through the tight fitting holes. Stay with it and get them installed, it will be worth the effort. They will fly great immediately and once they 'break in' they will be easy to remove and re-install. They last FOREVER! The Esky metal head system is so sloppy that you cannot put in too stiff a dampening system. The heli will track like never before and respond like a more expensive model. I also use them in several brushless Blade CPs. You can thank Dougs RC for this idea. Good luck.

Ingenious!

I'm getting ready to go fly now.

I'm gonna sim a bit and practice nose in (curse you fender!),
and then go try the real deal.
