My AR7000 I got with my Futaba module started to loose bind, so I got a new one. I bound the new RX to the TX, when I turn on the TX and powered up the RX all is well, if I turn off the RX and turn it on again the RX blinks but never goes solid and I have limited control of the heli.

Took it back to the LHS and got another, tested it right there with the same result. Pulled a DX7 out of the case and tried it, same result.

Called tech support, after a lengthy discussion they concluded that both RXs are bad. He explained that the RX will flash after a power interupt because of model match, but you should have full control, and the RX will go solid after a few moments, not the case with mine.

They had a Futaba module with an AR7000, this one works fine, turned the power on and off several times, solid light every time, no blinking at all, and for $109, why wouldn't I.

Just some food for thought.

If you cycle the power to the rx and the LEDīs shows steady light then that rx dont have the lastest firmware.
It worked nice for me for one year with 3 AR7000 and the older firmware so you can use them...but it will be safer with the latest firmware( the new quick connect feature is good...)

When you cycle reciever power it interprets that as a power failure and flashes the lights, its the latest firmware. You should have full control of the helicopter at that time.

Also the reciever will NOT go solid until you turn it off, turn the transmitter off and power it back up in the right order. Even if you turn it off for 15 seconds, or three hours, if you don't turn the transmitter off the reciever is going to find its transmitter GUID on the last two channels it used, and flash the lights.

Like he said, if the lights dont flash when you cycle the reciever you have old firmware.

Oh I ran into this once, The problem is during a bind operation with flashing lights. IT will bind, kind of..

Solution:

  1. install bind plug on Rx
  2. Power on Rx
  3. Power on Tx w/ bind button
  4. Wait a moment
  5. Power off Transmitter while Rx is still ON
  6. power of rx
  7. power on rx (it won't blink this time)
  8. power on Tx w/ bind button

I went a little crazy figuring this out on my JR 9 channel R921 Rx. I was absolutely convinced I had a bad receiver as it would never bind properly and the stupid ANT lights would just keep flashing. The trick to make it work was to let the Rx see the Tx power off. Then power of the Rx. Somehow this is only a problem while binding (in my case)

Thats what the tech guy was explaining, but I didn't have full control of the heli. I understand it better reading your explanations, and actually the other RX I tried at the LHS may have been fine and I wouldnt know for sure without trying it on a heli.

The whole story goes like this. I installed the new RX on my Evo 90 and went to the field. Turned on the TX and the RX, all was well, fired it up and no Gov. responce in normal, which was the initial problem in the previous RX. Hovered for about 30 seconds contemplating the possible Gov. issues, the heli did a slow piro left, started forward towards me, banked left and started flying away, hit the throttle hold which worked, had limited cyclic and collective just enough not to crash. The RX was blinking when I picked up the heli and the engine cut switch wouldn't work.

My first thought was a power loss, I use a CC Bec for a voltage reg. and the power out lead had to be re-sodered during the build. I connected a JR 2700mAh 4.8v RX pack, turned everything on, solid lights, started testing the controles and the light on the main RX started to turn on and off, and then started flashing, the satelite RX stayed solid. Thats all I needed to see, bad RX.

So in lies another question, is the new firmware fully compatable with the modules?

I cant pass up the module RX combo for $109, even though it is the older firmware.

I will pass along the info to the guys at the LHS to avoid confusion in the future, thanx for the info.

We did that bind process at the LHS, and it worked a few times and then went back to the blinking lights, possing yet another question.

I have the same thing in relative patterns. the change in pattern scares me with 720mm blades swinging.

1) Sounds like it could be a power problem with a bad Rx. The loss of control and the blinking lights when testing indicates a loss of power to the Rx.

2) For Jlerch, if you power on the Tx with the bind button pushed, the Tx looks for a signal from the Rx indicating a DSM2 Rx (yes they do transmit a signal when in bind mode), but when it doesn't see that signal (becuase the Rx doesn't have a bind plug installed), it switches to DSM mode. And when this happens, your DSM2 Rx will not see a signal and will "lose the bind." There is a note about this in the X9303 manual.

Thats why I tested with a 2700mAh RX pack(fully charged). The only thing between the pack and the RX is the switch, its a nice heavy duty switch, I will check the continuity today when I put in the new RX.

FYI -- The BIND button on the back of the DX7 transmitter extends BEYOND the outline of the back of the case.

If you lay the transmitter on its back while turning it on (or have it clamped to a transmitter tray that doesn't have a cutout for the button), it's possible to accidentally activate the bind function in the TX when you turn it on, without knowing you've done so.

The result is that your receiver seems to have "lost its bind" again and again, when in reality you TOLD it to do so accidentally.

Make sure that when you turn the TX ON that you're not accidentally pressing that bind button.
