e-Electric General Discussion > Logo 400 or Trex 500 CF in cold weather?

I am going to purchase one of these birds for winter flying and wanted to know what you recommend. I live in Northern MN so I was wondering how the plastic the Logo is made of would hold up in the extreme cold, or if going with the Trex 500, which has a metal head and CF frames would be a better idea.

logo 400/10..

I fly in the winter all the time and I found myself stripping main gears all the time on my logo 10...

That was withthe straight cut .5 mod main gears...so I switched to .7mod and it was fine..

I'm not sure what the logo 400 is using for a main gear but i'm sure it'll be fine.

I always see posts in regards to the Mikado's making references to .5 and .7 mods. What exactly does this mean, how is it different from pinions and maingears on every-other helicopter?

Main Gear mod

The "Mod" is short for Module I believe...it is the pitch of the main gear/pinion..

mikado had .5 mod 200t main gears inthe logo 10
then they had .7mod 138t main gears for the logo 14
then they had 96t 1.0 mod for the logo 20/24 bionics

The "higher" mod means a more spread out and bigger cut to the main gear..thus a stronger and beefier geartrain...but less flexibilty for gearing and louder operation...smaller mod usually equates to smoother operation also

the trex 600's are mod .7....the trex 500's are mod .6

Most big 90 sized aircraft and a few electrics have 1.0 mod maingears(Min Airs, Raptors etc...)

Then there are the new "herringbone" mikado ones also

That clears it up, thank you Jag. Do you know if the Logo 400 is herringbone, or traditional cut gears?

Found out...

Mikado is using the old school logo 10 .5mod 200t straight cut maingear on the new logo 400's...they just died it black now...so it looks new

This is a weak gear in the cold...

Can any other options be used, or do I have to purchase a, dare I say it, an Align T-Rex 500!! I have avoided mainstream like the plague!

Thank you for finding and posting the info Jag.

.7mod gears

I don't see any reason why the .7mod straight cut gears couldn't be used...that's what people have been doing for years...I have both of my logo 10's running the .7mods...

BTW...the logo 400 is just a logo 10 with a new canopy..

It has the old school non driven tail...

Ive been reading that the 400 is a scaled down 10. Do you think it would be better to just buy the Logo 10? The Logo 10 is approximately the same size as a 30 nitro, right? Basically the same size as a swift.

logo 400

the only difference between the logo 10 and 400 is the boom length...and the 400 has a newer canopy and a plastic fron battery tray ...that's about it....I hear the main shaft is a bit shorter but I'm not sure that really amounts to anything?

Personally I think the logo 400 is a waste of time...and I am a Logo lover..

I would rather have the logo 10 and just fly it with 500's or 550's

If you want a 425mm bladed machine just get the trex 500...

Thanks, I appreciate your point of view. I saw the Logo 10 CF version for pretty cheap on a website lately, although the benefit of the plastic frame is price to repair when ya crash!

logo10's

logo 10's can be acquired for almost nothing these days...even the CF ones can be acquired Super cheap...the CF ones never really break...the plastic frames do break easily...I myself fly nothing but the CF logo 10's...

the logo 400 is a cheap machine...but you can always just get a logo 10 cheaper and slap a logo 400 canopy on it..

Where did you purchase your Logo 10 CF at? It uses full size servos right? I am putting a Vbar on it so I am assuming the 8717's are the servo to use. I really like the Scorpion Motors, which one do you recommend along with what ESC? Which batteries? I could do the research myself, but I would like to know what combination works well together from somebody who has one.

logo 10's

Unfortunately the logo 10's are NOT designed to use full sized servos..they are designed to use the smaller ones like 9650's, 5245's, hs85's , Jr 3421's etc..

Which kind of sucks...I converted my CF logo 10 to use Fll sized servos though...Honestly though...if this is what you want to do then just get a logo 500....

The logo 400 will use small servos also..

Here's my curerent logo 10 setup

Zpower 110kv motor
stretched boom to run 550's
RT 560mm blades
Align 100A esc
6s 3700mah Outrage packs
Align 6a bec w/2s lipo
Futaba 9451 servos

this is a Killer combo...

heer's some pics..
