e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > Charger choice: Hyperion DUO or Cellpro10?

Which would you think I should get between a Hyperion DUO and a Cellpro 10? I currently use a Cellpro4 and I like its simplicity & safety. As my second charger, I need the ability to charge two 3s1p packs (of capacity 2200-3300mah) simultaneously. I have read some debates in this forum, but nothing so far is either conclusive or decisive for me to make a decision. Some even recommend a second Cellpro4 to me. I don't know what to get.

If the two packs you want to charge simultaneously are not flown together in series, I would just get another 4S. If they are flown together in series, the 10S can charge them in series. I had two 4S chargers but sold them and got a 10S for my T-Rex 500 series packs.

All i can say is I love my hyperion duo... it is easy to use.... safe charger... and best of all..i can charge 2 6s at the same time...i also have the cellpro4s... for the price of the hyperion, you can;t hardly find a charger that charges 2 6s and balances at the same time

I have several 3s1p packs for the 450s, then I started flying a 500 size heli which takes two of those in series. I currently don't use bigger 6s1p lipos, but I'll probably get them eventually. So I want the ability to charge two 3s1p lipos simultaneously. I charge 3S1p one at a time now using Cellpro4, and I'd like to shorten the wait.

Hyperion DUO all the way. I am looking for my second one so I can eliminate my TP1010's with 210V's.
I have not tried the cellpro but the Hyperion does it all!

No, it doesn't. There really isn't a "best" choice for all users, it depends on what you are charging. For example, the DUO can't charge single packs larger than 6S, the Cellpro can do up to 10S.

Hyperion, it is a great charger. I am currently using 2 x 610i nets and they work well.

Good luck

correct on that... if i was going to do more then 6s i would just charge 2 5s packs and run them in a series.... because with the cellpro 10s you still will only be able to charge 1 10s at a time ..unless you buy 2 of them..

So if I get two Cellpro10s, then I'll get all the features of Hyperion DUO then some more?

not sure of features side by side... but depending on what you are charging.... if you are a 500 size flyer or lower, the hyperion is the way to go IMHO....you can charge up to 2 6s at of 2 batteries of different sizes at one time..

^ Why "500 or less"? I fly 12S Models and a DUO's fine.

There is now v1.7 firmware for the DUO. You can set the Terminal Capacity Selection (TCS) - the charge capacity to when you want the charge to stop, (so you can avoid the slow CV end part of the charge) To "Stop" or "continue" - so if you miss the end of the charge to say 90% you can set the charger to keep charging until you take it off. (Called TCS ACTION). The DUO will now also keep balancing the pack after a charge to get the cells within 0.005 volts of each other. You can also read all this data on the charger and log it to the PC.

The TCS value (% of charge) is now also shown on the Balance menu home screen.

I also found recently that I was able to charge FOUR 3S packs at the same time on a DUO by making a "Y" balance harness.

Why not just get a Hobbico Accu-Cycle Elite (towerhobbies)? It will charge two 3S packs at the same time just like the Duo. Or, charge one 3s pack and your radio.. etc.

I have this charger and it doesn;t even compare... main thing that i missing from the accucycle is it does not balance the cells
and 3 cells is the most you will be able to charge for lipos...

I just got my 10S and its AWESOME,a LOT of the complaints about it are WAY WAY overblown, the batteries DO NOT NEED TO BE DISCHARGED EXACTLY the same,it will compensate. If you want a charger that will charge 2 batteries say for example t-rex size in less than a half hour, fully balance charged, its the way to go.if you are worried about it charging all kinds of batteries that you dont yet own, then it may not be for you

anyone PM me with any questions and I will seperate fact from fiction on the CELLPRO10s,as theres LOTS of fiction going around on this charger

nevermind... i knew why i didn;t buy that one as it couldn;t charge 2 6s at once... for a trex 450... if it is anything like the cellpro 4 it is a nice charger...but if you know you may be flying a 500 or bigger electric...i would still go with the hyperionduo

ok I have recieved many pm's about this.In order to give a proper response I need a direct answer to this question

What is the max amps you can charge at from EACH port on a DUO?I have studied the specs and as far as I can see the charger is 10A max,is this total?I see each port is capable of half power or 180Watts.so is each port only capable of delivering 5A max??Once I get a definate answer I will respond more

180 Watts over 6*4.2 = 7 Amps. Upto 3.7 Volts per cell the DUO will charge at 8.1 Amps per port for two 6S packs.

Anything less than 18 volt can be charged at 10A per port.

You studied the specs and you're not sure?

The charger says on it, "180W+180W, 360W Total Max Power Output"

Lets keep fact-from-fiction on the public forum where people can read the knowledge base instead of hiding it in PMs.

yes I was not sure because all the literature I could find said "10A max"but then from what you are saying you can charge less than 18V at 20 amps max total,I was just a little unsure of their wording, and I did not want to make any responses till I was sure.Thats how I do things,I make sure I have proper info BEFORE responding to someones question, and if I dont know something I find out,I dont just post anyway

but regardless,thanks for the data

I am answering some of the questions in PM form for 2 reasons

1)I dont want to get involved in a brand name war,I am tired of that BS here, this is not about brand names but specific questions about a specific charger, and there have been several threads linked here from other sites that contain a few "complaints" that are not 100% accurate

2)as a rep for a particular company the RR rules frown on discussing other name brand products on open forum, this is MARKS rule not mine

I gave my opinion on MY particular charger that I have bought, and i dont want this to turn into advertising,or brand war,so I will answer questions by PM

Brands aside, there will be a best charger for someone's batteries and flying.

People will want to read about specs and comparisons.

I have two new and very powerful chargers sat on my desk now - they look great but the specs and the price may be way more than some need. I don’t know the price or even if they are ever going to be released!

You're a rep? I'm not. I work for Hyperion but I am just really into this hobby. I believe that the more people are set in the right direction and the more people can set good examples of how to do everything correctly and enjoy their flying, the more people will join and it'll improve for everyone.

I get the impression if someone starts thread about something it is OK to help out with those products. As a rep you just can't start your own thread about products you’re associated with.
