Years of use??

Well I am in no means an expert but I have a totally stock Rappy with only the 20 BB upgrade and after a year it is still flying. I put about twenty gallons in it last year but my flying was pretty mild. Hovering, mild FF then the last half of last year, flips, stalls, loops, rolls, etc. I have noticed some slop in the controls but for this level of flying, just keeping everything tight, lubricated, and airworthy will extend the life more than anything. If you are a serious 3D pilot, and will be wringing it out on every flight, I don't think this would be the right choice. Otherwise it is a fine choice... BTW - how old is the nexus to be worn out and what type of flying did it get subjected to to get to that condition?

nexus is not yet worn out, just showing some signs of aging now. I bought it used, and the swashplate is starting to show signs of wear. No biggie to me, it serves it's purpose of a trainer. I'm still new to heli's and just now learning things past hovering... Just wanted to have a chopper ready to take me to the next level and beyond once I master the Nexus. I may buy the Concept swashplate for the Nexus since it has steel swivel balls on it rather than the stock.

I just heard that durability on the Rappy was sometimes questionable, and wanted a pretty durable machine for my 3rd.. I have a Concept 46vr waiting for my skills to improve before I even try it.

Thanks for the reply!! I'm tossed........ either the Sceadu or the Rappy.. I can find parts for the Rappy pretty easy, but the Sceadu is questionable... but reports on the hirobo is decent as a stock machine

If you still crash a lot like me, I would forget about the carbon fins and boom supports that are included in the package. They are just an added expense in crash repair. I would upgrade the ball links to Rocket City links if you can still find them (I heard they are out of business or in the process).

Thanks!!

Thanks! I'll have to call them to be sure, but I think that those parts are extra, that the stock comes with it as well, so I was going to put the heli together, and let it sit till I master the Nexus first.. So how agile are the rappy 30's as compared to something like a Scaedu 50??

A BIG thank you!!!

Thanks for all the input guys!! I ended up getting that combo with a bunch of other parts to replace some of the weak links. Heliproz rocks!!! Nice bunch of people, and they talked me out of some things that were not really necessary... I figured that the rappy will take my flying far beyond where I will be for a while.. since I haven't even mastered my Nexus yet

Thanks again for all your help!!! Any other suggestions before I build this puppy??? I also got some things like upgraded links, aluminum tail yokes, and just a bunch of other aluminium parts, and a heavy duty clutch.. and the best part of all.. CRASH KIT!!!!

I got the same heli that you want , igot it from heliproz also, but I got the arf version., I got it to really learn to fly these things,to avoid risk to my Z230 gasser... I did put a fma co-pilot on it, for a little added insurance, I really like the raptor!, and heliproz is great! Joe.

I can't wait till it gets here!! I think there's only 3 more upgrade parts that I didn't purchase for it so far.. a CNC head, aluminum elevator links, and something else.. It's going to be a hanger queen till I master the Nexus!!!!!! I also purchased a canopy from Canopy-FX. His work is amazing!!!!!!

I'll probably build it with the upgrades, and like I said, leave it till I master basic flying first. Maybe I'll play around with the Concept 46vr second, and the raptor 3rd...

Now all I need is good weather. .... know of anyone with that for sale??? My credit card's already melting from use, may as well finish it off

Another question

Just curious before I start building this heli.. Is there anything I should look out for during construction?? Should I reverse the head links like other's have suggested, during initial construction, or should I wait till it's in the air and see if I get that tracking problem?? Any construction flaws that I should look to correct during assembly?? I'd hate to put it together to find that there was something on step 1 that was wrong, and has to be redone

Thanks for your help!!

Get someone with experience to go over your heli after you have built it to make sure everything is correct. Get them to trim it out for you also.
I wouldn't do the "grip flip" unless you actually have the flutter problem. Statistically there are relatively few "woofers" out there compared to the total number of raptors flying.

re: blade grip flip

It's not a trivial thing to do, each thing you turn around causes you to need to turn something else around, and several of those parts just don't take well to being flipped. The two arms at the top of the head are the obvious thing that needs to be reversed, but the ball links are not symetrical about the mounting hole, so you have to adjust linkage lengths to maintain pitch range. The links that go down from them to the swashplate are now coming down from the other side as they pass the mixing assy, so they will rub against the bolts on the mixing arms, so the mixing sleeve has to be flipped over. The mixer links that go to the swash will therefore flip around the other way, but they have a bevel on one side only to clear the arms when bent very near them, so you have to bevel the other side out or they won't work much below 80 degrees. (with the bevel they go down to like 30 degrees) The last thing is to reverse the forward/reverse cyclic servo. I just flipped mine yesterday so this is all very fresh in my head.

I'd recommend getting it flying normally and then do this mod later when you're sure the Raptor's working properly in its stock configuration. If you don't have a head button yet, this is a good time to install one since you'll be working with the bearing block.
