Main Discussion > How do you TURN DOWN or UP your piro rate?

Some do it through the Dual Rate menu and some do it through the End Point (ATV) menu.
I would like to know which is the proper way.
I would think that it should be done through Dual Rate menu would like to hear from you. And the reasoning as well.

Thanks

I use ATV for all time purposes and dual rates when I have the rates assigned to a switch (read as changeable). In the first cenario you adjust MAXIMUM piro rate available to you during any condition while in the latter you can define the piro rate for specific maneuvers like piroflips/chaos.

I see it but remember when you change ATV settings, it will effect your dual rate settings as well.

I wasn't asking this as different piro rates for different flight setups.
Say for example, you set your heli without messing with any of the ATV settings and everything is(let's assume) at 100%. And you realize your piro rate is too much to your liking and you want to reduce it. But it will be same for all flight conditions normal, or idle 1 or hold. You want the same for all flight conditions and you do NOT need another faster or slower piro rate.
So what do you do in this case?

If there is no wish to have multiple piro rates, ATV will work just fine. Its the same as with pitch or cyclic. You limit the maximum available travel with atvs and then adjust each flight mode to your liking using curves. The basic max and min are set by atvs.
Dual Rates are nothing more than a % of the set atvs that why they change when you change your Atvs.

Alright, so you are saying it would be better to use ATV to reduce the piro rate.
I know both will do the job. I just wanted to find out the appropriate way.
You can do the same thing with many different ways with todays radios but there is generally one best way.

ATVs. This way you can make the piro's equal in both directions. For example, if you piro to the right much faster than to the left, decrease your rudder ATV in that direction, or increase it in the slow direction.

IMO there is no need for dual rates for anything in heli's.

Some trans like my 10x slows the response around center when you use dual rates, sort of like adding expo.Using just atv limits doesnt do this. Using both atv and dual rates to slow down the piro rate can make the TR feel funny or too slow in certian spots.

The JR770 Gyro requires you to use Dual Rates in the setup. First Gyro I have used like this...

I feel the same way . I call them switch and crash or dial a crash. If you loose orientation and need full travel it is something else to do to save bird.

I dont know how to fly just how to not crash !!!!!

Im not using dual rates on my 770 and 9303 2.4,it is just a suggestion to use dual rates.

I'm not using dual rates on my 770 either. To each their own

If you read most manuals they talk about dual rates or different gains in different modes . I never set up this way I use same gain in all modes . Also they talk about turning off HH when doing auto's . I think in the past when you did not have driven tails HH would rob power .

I dont know how to fly just how to not crash !!!!!

Skarn: they are usefull when learing coordinated maneuvers or need alot of consistency like piroflips. Check out Bobby Watts interview, he is using them.

Increasing the piro rate....

I do it by using a mix to lower the gyro gain. The master channel is the rudder (slave = gryo gain) and I use an exponential curve so that mostly extreme travel lowers the gain.

Works real nice!

Good point Tony! I should have said I personally don't see the need for Dual Rates....at MY level of flying
