Evo hovers "hands-off" upright and inverted just fine.
I'm just starting to do 8's inverted and I'm having trouble keeping the forward momentum.
It seems it wants to pitch up and stop if I stop holding some back stick. Is this a balance issue, paddles or just a pilot problem.

Sounds like a balance issue that was corrected with trim

So I should step back and balance on the flybar, retrim and try again?

Thanks

Hmmmm.................

Does it do the same upright?

Seems to track pretty true upright. I just picked it up by the flybar right now and it was sitting with the tailboom level without fuel.

Mine does the same and if I pic it up on the flybar it seems balanced perfectly. Just don t know.

here's a tough question:
Is the swashplate level in both hover mode and in idle up? If it is, a little nose heavy will cause it to move forward both upright and inverted. If it's tail heavy, to hover at neutral requires forward trim which translates to a stop while inverted.

I may be a little slow on that answer.
How would it be different?

Setup is non-CCPM, 9CHP.

Ok, maybe just a little more than slow.

Two possibilities:

1. You mentioned that you balanced the heli dry. It's generally a good idea to balance with about a half tank of fuel. If the heli is tail-heavy and you have trimmed it for upright hovering, there would be a bit of forward-cyclic in the trim. This would mean you would need back-cyclic input when flying inverted.

2. The HPM version of the Evo can exhibit cyclic offsets at extreme negative pitch. I experienced this on all my Evos. I correct this by adding two mixes in the radio (Pitch->Ele, Pitch->Ail). I find that the mixes are only needed on the negative pitch.

#2 can be due to non-perfect linkage setup, but I've drilled the servo wheels with the 2 degree offset and I still see this symptom. The best way to check this is to perform a maximum power inverted climbout and see if the heli tends to drift. Without the mixes mine will punch out fine upright but drifts badly inverted. It'll hover inverted beautifully though. Mine tended to drift nose-down with a right roll before I mixed this out.

Incorrect phasing plays into this as well. Get the phasing right before you add the mixes or you'll be going crazy trying to chase a straight loop or axial roll.

Hi

Try hover inverted.

With my Sceadu, the tail would drop and i would have to constantly hold a back stick correction.

Just like GM1 mentioned regarding the cg. I moved the cg forward and it now hovers perfectly both upright and inverted.

I moved the cg forward by removing weight in the tail. Carbon vertical fin, carbon boom supports and remove the horizontal fin did the trick.

I love this site. You learn something every day.

I've been experiencing the very same issue and I put it down to my inexperience at inverted circuits?

Thanks everyone for your comments and thoughts.
