Main Discussion > crashed my 500 today, pretty upset

hey guys,

I had some great flying today and on my last pack, I crashed.

I nosed-in, got uncomfortably close to myself, tried to spin it around and banked too hard too close to the ground. Lost air speed and altitude and hit the ground at 45 degrees, fack!!!

I just can't believe I did it. It got too close, I got nervous, almost ran back and and crashed my sweet bird, I'm so pissed!

My buddy with the same heli flew perfectly, no probs. Does this make him a better flier than me? It appears so...

I just don't know what to think.

main shaft
feathering shaft
canopy
landing gear
one 9650 gear set
bent head button

I feel really bad and thought this would happen with a much more challenging move.

Your buddy may be a better pilot than you as of today but you have more experience. Is this is your first crash? If it is and it is due to dumb thumbs then don't worry we have all or will all be there. Remember there are those that have and those that will. I know it's a sucky feeling but you'll be over it soon enough. Rebuild and go get some more experience and have fun. Good Luck.

I see people by me take their boats out all summer.

They spend $100, $200, $300, $400, in ONE DAY on GAS!!!!

You're in an engaging challenging hobby, developing your skills.

If I crashed today, I'd feel the same as you...

However, $150 crash in proper perspective, no big deal.

If I judged myself against my flying buddy...I would have to quit. He flies circles around me invert and backwards!!! Do it for you and you will be much happier.

Crashes happen. Get use to it.

Crashing sucks. Im pretty sure all can relate to the feelings. I hate it. I landed my 500 one time but did not spool it down, rather just left it mid stick as I as going to take right back off. Some little bug was crawling on my right hand and it was driving me nuts. Well you guessed it. I dispached the spider, reached back for the transmitter but bumped the stick and tipped it over in idle up. I was so upset I did not fly that day again or the next. I had to make myself get back at it! Is your buddy a better pilot? Really, it dosent matter. Its about fun and personal gratification of builidng a machine that fly's well and learning how to fly it well. When my heli is busted up I try to get all the broken stuff off pretty quickly and clean it up. That way if I have to wait for parts, I am looking at a heli thats not broken, but rather partially assembled bird.

Usually once your heli is kaput it's your last flight by default Even if it's your first flight

Don't feel bad and don't get angry at yourself. It happens it means you were pushing yourself and you are getting better. People who don't crash take longer to learn. The worst thing you can do is beat yourself up thinking I should have done this or that. It's not worth it and it ruins your confidence. Your crashed and you can have it running like new in no time. Like it never happened.

It could be worse... my 600n danced the funky chicken yesterday, now that's a crash! She'll be back and she'll be flown to destruction again.

I have nerves of steel but thumbs of jelly!

I never did really get upset when I crashed.

I'd just fix it and fly again. Crashing is part of this hobby, more so than most others.

does not mean that your buddy is a better pilot than you are , it just means that he had a better day thats all. we all make mistakes thats the part of learning from the sound of things you are doing well. keep at it and dont be to hard on yourself

shut up and fly

Crashing is not the worst, losing the good setup is the worst.

When your bird is flying sweet and then you crash,it's not the crash that sukks, it's all the time it takes to get back the sweet flying setup you finally had. Replacing parts is easy, getting that just right setup is the hard part.

still on my phone on vacation...

so it's tough to reply with the detail I'd like to, but I have to say this. All of your messages and stories are really starting to cheer me up!

I asked someone I fly with this: "when will my sim time really start to connect with my actual flying?"

His response was this: "when you crash about ten times!!!"

Maybe this will make me a better pilot? I don't know but I sure hope so.

You're right, a hundred and fifty bucks is not bad for all that fun is it?!

A week ago I was going to buy a crash kit for the 500, damn, I knew something was going to happen!

Why are all the lhs's closed on labour day? Argh!!!

Thanks again for the kind words, time to pack up.

All the best and sorry for those that crashed with me this weekend. May your repairs be cheap and speedy!

Crashes = upgrade opportunities. These are the events that teach novice pilots to get better.

Isn't that the truth. I hate losing a heli after it's all tweaked.
