My Synergy crashed today and I'm not sure why?!?!?!?!?

The model was about six foot off the ground in a steady hover then all of a sudden it went into a mad piroette and then into failsafe and hit the ground. Not too much damage but on inspection of the tail, it looks like the star washer has failed which has lost me the tail. With all the bearings and metal free becasue of the free star washer I think that casued it to go into failsafe. My only concern is that I run Futaba FASST on a 14MZ.

Any suggestions? Going to strip it tomorrow for a close look.

There have been problems posted here about the star washer. Do a search and you can see what others did. How many flights on the tail with the star washer sinc you have had it apart?

As far as the failsafe, it is hard to beleive that the loose bearing caused that. There might be some thing else, like the heli was piro so fast that the battery came unpluged? Plug from the receiver come loose? Just some thoughts.

I have not had any issues myself but when building my first Synergy i did notice the the star locking washer was not a good fit on the shaft and some of the guys have had failures which have been traced to a failure of the washer.

It is not a failure as such but rather the washer is not grabbing the shaft properly, it seems to be the tollerances on the washers.

what i did was to go to an engineering supplier and purchase a pack of star locking washers of better quality and design, these are much better and require much more force to push onto the shaft and you can actually see it digging into the brass of the sleeve.

lightly tap on the synergy washer before installing to add a little more preassure, then once installed turn washer on bushing 3 or more revolutions. this will cause a groove to form on the softer bushing.

Thanks guys. I like the groove idea and will do that. I am just concerned why the model droped to the ground like a stone. Will investigate it today when I strip it.

That is making me wonder how come they invest so much at the N9 SE tail upgrade and did not handle one of the main critical issue of the star washer that is very dangerus?

I had a VERY HARD time with mine so I changed to a Hirobo pin and C clip works GREAT been there without any problems

the lock ring isnt really an issue, I have experienced only one time about 8 months ago were a lock ring came off. and still had tail control but only to the right.dont worry the groove trick works perfect.
