well, i am rebuilding my vibe 50 head after a recent crash. i poped the new spindle in and everything seemed great, so i tighten it right down, and my grips are not smooth rotating, its notchy. so i took it apart and checked that i had it right, checked all the bearings and everythings good, so i added a little more grease and tried again, still the same thing! its only once both are tightend. i put the spindle in a vice and tightened just one grip down and it was fine.
i cannot figure out what is wrong, it almost seems like my spindle is too short.(the cant get all the bearings onto the grip untill i tighten it up.

if i pull outward the notchyness immediatly goes away.

i guess its alright?

id say your thrust bearings have died, pretty common after a crash.

You might want to see if you have the inner and outer washers reversed or the bearing ring is facing the wrong way. There should be no notchiness in the movement. The Vibe is a very smooth machine.

Fly hard, have fun and take it home in one piece...

Lego, the notchyness is most likely your radial bearings, even if they feel smooth before you put them on doesn't always mean they are, when you tighten everything down it puts a side load on them the notchy feeling shows up. I'm having the same issue with my tail right now.

its perfectly normal on a vibe 50 to experience that notchiness. If its gone as soon as you apply some outward force, you're good to go. If not, you have another problem.

One question. Did your blades fold when you crashed? If yes, check out the grips if they have a cut on each side (from the blades). Personally I never paid attention to that but last time, one of the cuts was deep enough to deform the wall and jamm one of the thrust bearings. This wasn't noticable on the bench but in flight the blades were out of track which is something that I didn't experienced in ages. I put new grips on (like $8) and everything was perfect again.

there is tiny markings on the grips from the blades, but nothing that goes very deep. i checked the inside of the grip for roughness and its all good

I hope u're right. Mine were pretty small too but apparently enough to deform the inner radius section (without feeling rough).

Like I said, this problem will only appear (if at all) during the maiden flight and if your blades are out of track eventhough your linkage is perfect, you know what it is

I think I'd change the $7 grips after ANY crash. Not worth flying them again.
