fuses with Heli Boy

thanks for Identififying the Hughes 500 fuse. When I went to http://www.vintageheliparts.com/ that was in another post I am thinking I may have 3 fuses. They must have been in a cool basement in the dark because they are in perfect shape. I think there is a Hughes 500, heliboy and mini boy. Now if I could find the missing drawings I might be able to get going on it.

You may want to look in tutelar-rc's gallery. He has the manual and build pictures available for download there. If there are drawings available, I bet he would know.

Wow!

It looks like you have the "S" head on that machine (blades free flapping up and free swinging lead-lag).

I flew mine with the original head, then updated it to the "S" head, which flew much better (you could even roll it, although it was a bit sporty for a fixed pitch machine).

Nice machine!

Search this forum and you will find a guy named Gerd who has worked with Mr. Schulter to bring the Helibaby back in limited production!

S head

Interesting,

I thought something was wrong when I could flip the blades up by hand. How the heck does it fly like that? I would assume the blades would just go up when you ran it up and it would sit there.

Centripetal force will hold the blades out. The S head was much qucker on cyclic than the stock head (Heliboy flybar and paddles).

I still have my old Helibaby (which I hope to restore and fly someday).

A very good, very reliable machine.

Thanks for the link and the member names. I still haven't found any documentation about the S head but from tutelar-rc gallery I was able to find some drawings I was missing and pictures. I think the only things I am missing are the fuel tank and a helicopter muffler for the K&B .40 that is in the helicopter. It has an Irvine carb on it.

I would suggest upgrading the tail and belt with a toothed version from minicopter.de - this will totally eliminate the problems with the stock smooth tail belt. Lots of info on his site as well...

Good luck and happy flying!

I would suggest eliminating the K & B .40. I flew Revolutions with these motors (the Revolution I was a copy of the Helibaby) and there is not a great deal of power.

I am not sure what type of modern power plant should be used. We used O.S. .40 FSR's and later, O.S. .45 FSRH's.

Good point on the toothed belt. I will look into that. As for the K&B .40 I might go ahead and use it for the vintage effect. I have a Raptor and I will do all my real playing with that. This is more of a curiousity item. AltecLansing found me a muffler and a fuel tank. Gotta go wife caught me on the computer again and today is chore day.

depends on if you can be patient enough to wait for the right buyer .. here is a mini boy ... next step up (collective .40 size) and 2008 JR radio that didn't sell on ebay for 299.00
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...:MEWA:IT&ih=018

And here is another mini boy with a kraft radio that I don't know if the radio is even useable ?? and it is only 78.00 with only 10 hrs to go .

I would say it is not worth much more than some where between these ranges ...

"As for the K&B .40 I might go ahead and use it for the vintage effect."

It will fly it, but there is little reserve power. If you get trapped in your own downwash, it is quite a bit sportier to escape from it with the K & B than the O.S. or something more powerful.

Just a suggestion.

Reason I was asking is some one gave this to me and he would like to see it fly. At the time I looked at it I told him I didn't think it was worth anything and getting it running would be next to impossible being that old. I told him maybe it was something someone could put in a display case or something. I would feel a little guity if it was actually worth a lot of money. Seems it is not worth much and it is parcially done with parts missing but I can go for the "seeing it flying" wish. Since parts and information seems to be a go. As for that radio in the second ad I actually used one of those Futaba FGs on my 3D Katana until the wiring burned last year when I was starting the plane. Countless flights on that radio 1983-2007 great radio, RIP.
