JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Possible brown-out w/ Align voltage Reg. Any suggested setups?

I'm currently running the Align voltage reg. w/ integrated glow ignitor. I like not relying on a glow driver to get it started, I also like the built in voltage gauge and on/off switch, however recently I think I'm suffering from minor brown outs. The heli goes wacky for a split second and then comes back. I recently replaced my lipo with a Outrage 2 cell 2500mah after the original Align pack swelled like a balloon. The wiring is good with no chafing or grounds, all the connections look tight. Anyone else had problems w/ the Align reg. I'm thinking about going to the scott gray system so i can run the cyclic at 6volts and the tail at the required voltage. Any other suggested try and true systems out there

If you are running JR/Spektrum, double check the antenna wires on the receivers as they can come off. I have been running the 2-in-1 for the longest time without any problems -- maybe your unit is going bad...

Check for rust inside the 2 in 1 and apply CorrosionX by the switch hole and the wire exit.

That's why the brownout seems to make glitch like.

Many answer on this already.

I would dump the 2 in 1 and get a Scott Gray and if you want an onboard glow ignitor then get a switch and glow. Its costs a bit more but compared to a crash its well worth it.

You are right for the switch price vs a crash and I know pretty well what you are talking about: I completly destroy a New Vibe 50 for a bad switch wire welding.

Thats the way to learn !!!!!!!!! even after 30 years with RC model experience.

Beside that the fuel (nitro) tend to let corrosion arrive faster then you think on copper and now I use servo grease after a good spray of corrosionX on any switch hole or wire exit not protected.

Better luck with Scott Gray stuff

anyone else suffered the same problem, I hate to do brute force troubleshooting and cannot duplicate it on the ground.

Personally, I love my Reactor X and would not recomend anything else! I am running my 8915's at 6.8v and 5.2 is the stock output to reciever. The 3 power inputs to the reciever distribute volts and current to the reciever buss well. You will have 5 amps to the reciever and 10 to the cycilics. I am not worried about using an extender and a hand held igniter.

Just my 2 cents!

Take off's are always optional, but landings are MANDITORY!

It is not about the brand or the color of the product, but most of the time about the availability in your LHS and the references that you can get around.

I am sure that ReactorX is a quality product well priced and with a quality click over the Align product.

It is not 10 or 20$ that will make the difference between buying the best part or a standard one available in your area or sold by your LHS that most of the time support you.

When I enter my LHS and he show me the most recent acquisition that is there on the counter top and the one that you can dream of, most of us are like kids that want it now for whatever reason you can find and you are ready to cheat yourself with false reason to get it NOW because you can touch it.

So quality and reason has nothing to do with kids dreams !!!!

Under normal operation your rx lipo battery should NEVER swell, on board electronics do not require enough current to do this. The battery swelling coupled with apparent glitches or brownouts suggests to me that you have a short somewhere, either in servo wires, receiver, other electronics or in the 2in1. A shorted connection is the only reason I could see a rx lipo swelling (unless you got the 1 in a million lipo that can't handle supplying up to 6A of current). I would try and find the cause of shorting in your machine before you go buy a new reg.

actually, over discharging the battery can cause swelling too, not just over current. I had one swell after setting 6 weeks with no use and disconnected. can not be a short there.

true, I assumed he meant it swelled from normal use in the heli

I had the power switch mounted to the fan shroud, do you think that could've caused the problem? maybe the switch is overheating
