Computer Flight Simulators > G3 Controller Question

Need some basic information to a "newbie" to sims...

I've been flying nitro 50's and 90's for five years, NEVER had a sim!
But the other day my brother in law gave me his G3 w/ 3.5 upgrade!
(He upgraded so I got the "hand me down version from him)
Never having flown one before I loaded it up into my laptop, Man is it addicting! (being a non-gaming 45yr old dog)!!

Question: The G3 Controller he gave me has that ratchet type collective, Is there a way I can remove, fix or change this to make it a smooth type collective like my JR 9393 Radio??
I know this may sound simple or the question may have been covered before but this ratchet thing has got to go for flying heli's!!

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me in clarity to a Veteran Nitro guy but a newbie Sim guy!

Open it up. Remove the spring (a flat steel strip) that rubs on the plastic arc that provides the tension (ratching). File off the "teeth" on the arc. Grease and put the spring back on to provide some tension. Some people just slip a piece of fuel tubing over the spring. That works too but I think filing the teeth provides a better, non-spongy feel. Joe....

Haven't opened mine, but IIRC, you can unscrew the spring-thing and turn it over so it doesn't ratchet.

No need to file anything or otherwise irreversibly alter it.

All I did was take the rachet and turn it over.

I will open it up and flip or possibly remove the metal clip!

Like I said, I have been stickin' on Nitro helos for several years and never had a sim, I always spent the money buying the parts to replace my mistakes.. SO as you may know it has been a long road!
Now I have this 3.0 w/ 3.5 upgrade given to me and I am quite impressed with it! (Having nothing to compare it too)
In closing, I may again be posting on this page as I learn to download from Knife Edge things like the the Raptor 90!

I guess a old dog can learn new things on a sim....

P'n P,- You're welcome!...The sim will save you a fortune.
You're probably aware there is a huge instruction manual acessible from the start-screen.
that Expansion packs are a different thing to add-ons packs.

that you can customise and save models and fields.
that you can use your own radio via the buddy-cord adaptors supplied with G3.

that G3 is compatible with all earlier add-ons but expansion packs ONLY work with G4.

As another "oldie" I,too have learned new tricks

At the top of the RR page(just under the header) you'll see a search feature,-click on it and type "controller ratchet" or "interlink ratchet".....I'll bet that more posts than you can shake a stick at, will come up on this subject

Oh,-try "broken controller" or "Gimbal spring"....you'll find out all about the supposed weakness in the design and how to fix it..

If you get really bored, type "G3 ",,or" G3.5".....that'll drag up just about every post ever on RR ,regarding the sim, from it's launch to the final version which you now have.

Hope this helps you get the best out of the sim. IMO, a sim is the finest investment you'll ever make in this hobby...you've done even better! yours was a freebie....and I bet your flying will come on in leaps and bounds

I did the ratchet flip on my G2, G3, and G4 controllers. All worked fine.
