Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Kasama Srimok X-Cell 90 Head

I wanted to share this with all of those interested in the Kasama head for the MA/X-Cell helicopters. I picked up the Kasama head from Ed at GrandRC. I had already bought a 600N head and was so happy with that head that I thought that my Stratus deserved some extra bling. I also had crashed my Stratus this past weekend so the new head would be part of my rebuild.

Here's what it comes with:

1. A slightly different main shaft. The bolt hole that attaches to the head is lower:

The top shaft (in the plastic) is the Kasama shaft:

2. Here is the bag containing the blade grips:

3. Here is the 3rd bag:

4. Here is a picture of the contents of the bags laid out:

5. Close ups of the bags laid out:

And the instructions:

I must say that the machining is flawless and so pristine! This is the ultimate bling!

I started putting the blade grips together:

Then I lubed up the dampeners and placed them into the head:

I then put the blade grips together (sorry I forgot to take a picture with just the blade grips and the head). I then put the seesaw together along with the flybar control arm and the flybar. I used a TRex 700 fly bar because it is longer than the standard MA one, plus I had one on hand. It has some flat spots which are positioned just right to accomodate the red flybar rod collars:

Here is the finished product:

I still have to put it onto the heli. Unfortunately, I have to replace one of the servos so it won't be tonight.

This head went together similarly to my TRex 600N's head. If it flies like that head, this one is going to be a lot of fun! Hopefully I'll be able to get it into the air this weekend.

I'll try to keep the updates coming!

Very nice looking head. Just make sure those blade grips can swing over that head button. In a crash you risk bending a grip if it doesn't.

Very very nice. Let us know how it flys.

nice

Let us know how it works compared to standard extreme head and what throws you can get compared to the standard as well.

Very cool

I haven't had a chance to fly it yet due to some tail problems but when setting up the head, I was able to get 15 degrees of positive and negative pitch on the collective and about 8.5 degrees of cyclic pitch.

So I finally got chance to fly the Kasama head on my non-BW Stratus. I must say that the Kasama head is very responsive. I would say that it is more responsive. Some of that is likely due to the metal blade grips but the dampeners are much stiffer than stock. The Stratus is quicker on the cyclic but some of that may also have been due to the longer flybar.

It was a lot of fun but my engine wasn't quite as tuned as I would have liked on some of the initial flights but the head performed well.

It looks very very nice. Do you have more pics of your stratus without the canopy on?

Thanks,

I have a few pictures in my gallery from the first build but it doesn't have the new tank. I also have setup up my header tank up front, next to the engine head block. Sorry I don't have any recent pix.

Did you have any trouble installing the bearings in the grips? I had a Kasama head on my Raptor and they were a bear to get in and out.

Very nice indeed. What head speed are you running?

Just do it.

Steve,
My bearings were already installed but I think they'll be a pain to get out.

Rada,
I am running 1900hs but may increase it if I go to 690 blades.

I just got a tip from Ed at GrandRC that heating up the blade grips will help the bearing pop easily in and out.

For taking out bearings from any alu block, put it in the owen (around 200F) for 15 minutes and then just pull them out.

Put new ones in while its hot, add green loctite on the outside if they are really gonna stay put (often not needed)

I was flying my Stratus this weekend and although I'm still having some tuning issues (YS91 and an MP2), I noticed the cyclic was noticably quicker. I had made some adjustments to heli but no changes in my pitch. I am running Radix 690 blades, the Align 700 flybar, Align paddles, 12/-12 collective pitch and 8 degrees cyclic pitch. This setup made the Stratus the most responsive I have ever had it and it's 3D performance was tight. Rolls were extremely fast, like a much smaller heli.

Now all I need to do is get a different pipe for my heli and I think I'll be good to go!

So I finally got a chance to put the Kasama head through it's paces. I was able to get a gallon through my Ys 91st with my new hatori SB19FH and the Kasama header. All I can say about the combo is Wow. I must have had some wicked cyclc because my first flight was twitchy. I decreased the cyclic pitch so that I was getting 8 degrees and I had collective pitch of 12degrees. Once I got to these settings it was much more fun to fly. You can still get alot more pitch.

The head is precise and very responsive. Roll rates, with the longer flybar and Kasama head were quick, like a smaller heli, but with the presence of a MA machine.

The power with the Kasama header and hatori muffler was very good especially in the windy conditions I flew today.
