A friend of mine flies for one of our local news stations, On the way to and from assignments she captured some footage mainly of San Francisco and editted a clip, theres some cool shots I thought you might enjoy. For those of you who may not know the song is about San Francisco called "Lights" and was written and played by "Journey" who is from the City by the Bay.
Tough job but someone has to do it.

Heres the link:

Nice.

Brings back memories...

I used to fly N614"Turkey Vulture" (4 Tango Victor) for KRON.

Fortunately they discontinued that heli...a Schweizer 300Cb is not a real good platform for news gathering haha.

I was always the last on the scene...

Rod J. and Bo "The Wonder dog" and Glen the cameraman were also based at KCCR and used to love leaving after me...blasting by in their A-Star on the way there...and then blasting by on his way back while I was still chugging along

That story is too funny, I couldn't image looking up at a 300 with a DP shooting with a hand held, the Astars are nice, most have dated equiptment, the Jetranger L-4 has the most recent equiptment but they comment on the lack of tail rotor compared to the Astars. There must be about 7 New Choppers at the airport now, it's cool watching them all head out around 6:30am for the morning shows.

I remember going to a Giants game a couple years back... just so happened that they were having fireworks that night as well... They played that song just as the fireworks were coming to an end and that song was the last thing the crowd heard as we all left PacBell Park... I mean SBC Park... I mean.... AT&T Park... I'm sorry, did I miss one?

anyhoo, great song, great montage... kinda cool knowin that all I gotta do is look out the window and voila! there's the city!

Perry,

Forgot to mention...the 300 was a 'one man band'...

I had a little 5 inch black and white monitor with a cardboard sun shield haha.

With practice you could set the camera to 'drift' and time your orbit so that it would stay in the same relative location. You can imagine though how many times I lost the frame because I'm handling comms with SFO, heli air to air, and KRON...all the while trying to fly the heli with my knees and not smack into anyone else.

It was insane

"....I couldn't image looking up at a 300 with a DP shooting with a hand held..."

Then you should enjoy this pic. I'm in the ball cap, the DP/operator, Adam Marsden, was brutal at heights. Production had to add " Fresh underwear, Camera department" to the next days DPR. Really.

As mentioned earlier, the duct tape on the seatbelt works; he did, however, insist on using my harness for the following flights.

I think that should be the new definition of a close call with an AP rig....

Heres the honeymoon suite I've spent a few hours in. There is something about the wind through your hair that's appealing shooting outside the heli, it's the bugs in your teeth that I have the issue with, I think I'll get my protien from another source. Thanks for the photo's Papatango, it's cool to see what others are doing.
Helidriver your killing me with the stories, I'm sure you know that KRON has a Jetranger now, if I recall there also using a FLIR gimbal, it seems like the industry has come a long way in a short period of time.

What stunning footage, smooth as you like & captured with emotion & mood, love it. Could even be used as a start off to a new film...I'm VERY Jealous

Seems to me that ALL heli's beat the air into submission
