Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > Magnum fuels glow plug cost me $60

Has anyone tried one of the new Magnum fuels glow plugs? The new Buzz mix seems to run very nice an it was recommended at IRCHA to use the new plug with the new fuel. I installed the plug like any other plug I have used. I did notice that it was a little snug but thought nothing of it as I snugged it up. It was dusk so I was just hovering around. Around 4 mins into the flight I was in a high hover then poof. A flame out and I noticed something glowing bright orange falling from the machine. I autoed her in and checked it out. The glow plug had shot from the head and really did a number on the cylinder head of my new YS SR.

When all is said and done, I had to order a new head and a temp sensor for my Carbsmart. $64 with shipping. I think I will ust stick with the good old #8 from now on. Word.

Sounds like you cross-threaded the head when you installed the plug. Chalk that one up to operator error, not simply using a different plug.

I've had more than one OS #8 plug shot out of an OS 70 SZ-H before in-flight, never damaging the threaded hole in the head. I hadn't cross-threaded the hole, I simply didn't install the plug using enough torque and the darn thing worked its way loose.

I've had a couple of plugs work their way out as well, just sometimes happens.

I've had a plug come out before , but I've never actually seen the plug as it came out at the speed of a bullet , glowing orange or not .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Sorry to hear about your mishap, but the above sure sounds to be the case.

I'm trying the new plug with the new fuel and have not had great luck with it. Switched from coolpower because of the price but with the serious lack of power I'm ready to switch back to coolpower.

I would seek the help of someone who has tuned for the new fuel. I think it is worth giving a better chance. I personally have not tuned an engine in on it, but have flown a few tanks through other guys machines and the fuel really does make as much if not more power than traditional 30% (it seems to me).

If you take the time and be patient, running the new fuel is great! I get more power than with 30% nitro. The engine picks up RPM from a bog much faster. Starts and idles great. Good smooth midrange transition. Plus, my engine runs much cooler at tune than with 30% nitro.

The general rule I have noticed is that the new blend needle settings are a bit leaner than with 30% nitro. The lowspeed needle is slightly leaner than with 30% and the highspeed needle is just under a 1/4 leaner than with 30%.

This has been tested and verified on a O.S. Hyper and YS 50ST. The YS seems to benifit from this fuel more than the O.S., but both engines like this blend.

One thing to note, the exhaust you run on these engines has a huge impact on tuning, so make sure to keep an eye on your temps!

I fly.....because I can.

No one should have to replace a stripped cylinder head. Clarence Lee will make them better than new with a SS helicoil for just over $20.

AMAZING Cross thread your plug and strip out the thread so the plug falls out and it's the fuels fault.
Don't feel bad I did the same thing to a plug in a Freya but I knew it was my fault.

The you have all the modelers that burn ONE tank of new stuff and can't tune to save their life and it's a bad fuel.

Been hearing if from guys from across the USA.
Good thing people didn't give up on the noisy old automobiles back in the early 1900's.
