I need help!!!!! Don't want to regret buying G2..

I've just bought and installed g2 on my system and am having a few problems. I'm running it under Windows ME. Firstly I had the white screen problem. Sorted this now that I've installed the update and updated my graphics drivers. Controller kept sending rogue signals even though I wasn't moving anything -I think this has now been sorted but...
On a couple of occasions i've used a drop down menu and the whole program/system has locked up.
AND
If I switch my system on with the G2 CD still in the CD Drive then my system just locks up as soon as it gets into the Windows Desktop.
HELP ME SOMEONE PLEASE !!!!!!!
Before I regret spending my hard earned cash and return it for a copy of CSM!

ps- I've got a CSM180 gyro in my raptor to get a similar feel what should i be setting G2 to??? (probably the simplest question to answer)

Regret?

I have the same as you, the only regret is that I have that P.O.S. ME system. The problem is the operating system, I have had my share of difficulties with M.E. The very second that XP sorts out all the security issues this P.O.S. M.E. is going straight out the WINDOWS--pun intended!

I had the same problem, disconnect the printer from the interphase and try it.

Are both of these problems common?

i'm using the dummy controller so i don't have the worry about the printer being connected ( it isn't anyway).

I'm beginning to think about trying for my money back.

Don't get me wrong. The graphics are really good but it's just frustrating to spend the sort of money that we have done and struggle to get the program up and running.

Maybe I just want someone to come and hold my hand and sort it all out for me!!!

Now about that gyro???

I have ME and G2 runs like silk. Haven't had a lock up. I thought ME was ok with G2. Sound to me like Video Driver Issues. I have a 64 meg Nvidia G Force 2 Ultra. I think I would try and update your video card drivers before I would try anything else.

G2

I know how you feel. But after a frustrating couple of days getting it to work, it has been the best investment I have made.

And it was a large investment. I bought it at a local hobby shop. Stick with it, you will be glad you did. By the way, I am running it on XP.

While you were updating your video drivers, did you check for updates for your sound card and motherboard? (4-in-1's etc.) I assume you've already closed any background apps like virus checkers and such, if not, do the Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill anything other than Explorer and Systray. If there's still no joy, see what DXDiag has to say about your installation of Direct X.

G2 and all upgrades Running Great

I am using a N Vidia 64 G force with the driver updated from N vidia , I am using all the upgrades and add on 1,2,and 3. My system is a P 4 1.5 512 DDR Rams with Soundblaster Live with latest driver. My OS is Win XP PRO. Everything runs perfect and fast even loads faster than when I ran ME. Most of the problems are in the Video Card. The RF G2 is really fussy about the card and drivers. When you reload you must manually go into the Win Files and delete everything manually after you used the uninstaller in G2. Once you are loaded and updated if the system locks go into the option and turn off everything except your heli sound this should help make the system run smoother and stop the lockup. Good Luck

It's going back!

Spoke to the people where I bought G2 from today and decided it's going back to them. After being the proud owner for a mere few days I've had enough

.i know that G2 is a good piece of software but i really struggle to believe that there is this level of problems going around. When I rang up about ordering G2 i quoted my PC's spec and was told that it was more than what was required to run G2. There was never any mention of the piece of software i received needing updating from a website for numerous reasons. I've managed to overcome two problems with the software but after following all links, updating drivers here there and everywhere and shutting down programs that normally sit in the background doing no harm to any other software, i find that I still don't have a flight sim that I can use without something going wrong. I wouldn't mind if it was a low end price but as we are all aware it isn't. Sorry if there's people who don't agree with what I'm saying but i do believe that this is getting beyond a joke.

This still leaves me without a flight sim though. Dare I ask for a verdict on CSM v10?? All I want is to learn how to fly a heli not become a computer programmer!

Sorry to hear you sent the G2 back. It really is an awesome program once you get it up and running. Trick is, you have to meticulously go through the set up to make sure you have the latest versions of everything in order for it to work properly. Sound and video card drivers must be updated to the the most recent available. Sound and video cards must be compatible with each other and with G2. Some video cards that are compatible with the original version of real flight, are not compatible with G2. The list goes on.... There is quite a bit of help availabe via the knifedge website (software developers of the program) should you decide to give it another try sometime. Also FWIW, I've been told that Win98 is still the most stable and (considered by many computer pros) best platform from which to run gaming applications. Seems there are quite a few "bugs" with Win ME, XP and 2000 that make it difficult to run some types of games.
good luck with your sim search.

martinpm,

I have the following system and G2 works a treat.

Athlon 1600XP CPU
Geforce 2 GTS 64 mb
Asus M/B with built in sound
512 mb ram
SCSI H/D (2)
SCSI CD drives

When you install G2 disable any Anti Virsus software first or any other program which runs in the background. I am using NVidia Detonator drivers downloaded from their web site. As previous posts have said update your sound card drivers. My friend had the same problem as you have, White screen and lock up's. I spent two days trying to fix the problem before I discovered that his M/B with built in sound chip was incompatible with Direct X8 (which you need for G2). and could not be updated The result was disable the onboard sound and install a sound card and now everything works brilliant. Like everyone on this form said, G2 is the best.

That is a good point Richard . I have done that on some system too. The reason that works is when you use an all in one board ( where the video sound and modem is built on the board) it uses resources ( memory and storage ) from the rams and other areas to run. This cuts down the option for the programs to find the power to run itself. When you install the other boards it uses its own available resources instead of taking it from the motherboard.

My hobby shop can run the program on A lesser machine then mine, A friend run this sim on his but I lock my computer up right from get go It may be late but mybe you should worked at A little bit longer. It seems these sim programs are so complex one little glitch can be A real problem
