I have a 3yr old rap 50 v2. Currently running jr DS537 servos on cyclic. And jr NES810G on the tail. What servos should I buy for the cyclic to upgrade. I like JR stuff. Any suggestions? Also what do you all think of the tailrotor servo I'm using with the JRG500T gyro. Replace it too?

what sort of budget and flying are you looking at?, if you want top notch the 8717's are some of the best around right know, but are pretty expensive, the 9452's or 9252's from futaba are an affordable alternative..

for gyro the 8900 is the best, also the bls251, 9256, and 9254 are good servos from futaba. Im not sure which that gyro excepts though

IMO you should go with a high torque servos especially for the pitch and a higher speed servo for the cyclic is what i use to have on mine. since the raptor is a single type servo ... now i converted my rap 50 to ccpm by tp pack and using all 9452's,
like legoman say's what's your budget?

I was not wanting to spend over 200 or 300 dollars on the upgrade. Was thinking about just putting one expensive high torque servo on the pitch and maybe some less expensive on the cyclic. I haven't had much trouble so far with the tail rotor servo and gyro, actually am fairly happy with that end of the heli. Are 9452's made by Futaba?

Can I jump in and recommend the new Align servos? Specifically the DS610 & DS620's which apart from being very fast and powerful also seem to be very reasonably priced.

The DS610 is geared towards cyclic control :

I've just started to have some feel of these servo's on a friends Trex600N and so far they are proving to be very good. I dont think their metal geared but to be honest with you sometimes that's not a bad thing, I think their actually a titanium alloy gear set off the top of my head.

Would be worth a look I think if your after much better servo's but without paying top prices.

Nice specs, but knowing Align's track record with releasing new products, there's no way I'd be putting their servos in a heli until they are proven to be reliable or they release V2.

To answer the original poster's question, I'd pick up 3 Futaba 9542s, they are fast, center great, and are plenty strong for collective. Plus, buying 3 like that means that when you decide to upgrade to a CCPM heli you'll be able to carry them over. For the tail, if what you have is working fine, keep it. If not, pick up an 8700G or 8900G, I used the 8700G on a 500T for a while on my Freya and it was a great combo. The 8900G is the newer version of that servo, it's faster, but the 8700G will work great, and they can be found used in the $60 range.

I appreciate everyone's input so much, thank you. Not wanting to bite the hand that feeds me - but is it such a good idea buying used servo's or is that a normal thing these days?

Usually its better to buy NIB electronics, wheather from the LHS or from forums, unless you really trust the seller.

Futaba connectors will fit. You just need to trim off the small tab at the edge.

Jr servos are popular. Take a look at the 8717, many are using it. But I don't think it fits in the raptor servo tray w/o mod.
