Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > Next question: Servo Output Shaft Stabilizer. Are they really necessary?

Are the Servo Output Shaft Stabilizers really necessary? The reason I ask is thus: My cyclic servos are Hitec 5625's with metal gears. The thread pitch of said servo output shafts are M2.6, and the stock studs that come with the Pantera are self threading, and Audacity does not have M2.6, only M2.5 servo stabilizer studs. I don't want to mess up either the output shaft threads by trying to screw in the M2.5 studs, nor do I want to risk screwing up a set of M2.5 studs if the Servo Output Shaft Stabilizer's are a vital part of the machine.

So, those of you that fly Hitec digital metal gear servos...what did you do?

John, I'd love your input too.

what? they're 2.6? wups. Well, I've been using the 2.5 studs on 5625's, no issues at all. After reading this, I had to go pull the stud out, tried threading a brand new 2.6.. and a brand new 2.5mm. I see no distortion on the studs, both screws go in fine. studs are tight. *shrug*. the 2.5 bolt feels like it may be marginally looser, but without measuring it could be subjective. I'd say they're fine and I'll be reassembling mine with a touch of thread lock, due to reading the lock washers don't always hold.

As a side, I had a 5625 fail on me, just quit. Too bad I was in the air.

nope, and the attempt at flying while it, uh, 'landed' wasn't very rewarding either.

Miniature Aircraft has used the servo stabilizers forever, and their studs are a direct replacement for the Audacity one. Those are available everywhere in a couple different sizes.

As to the thread size, the difference is only in the diameter of the threads, 2.5mm vs 2.6mm nominal. Both are a couple thousandths of an inch under the listed diameter. If you damage the 2.5mm by using it in a 2.6mm hole, you are way too heavy on the wrench. Do not sweat it.

The servo stabilizers aren't necessary but the servos can move under loading in hard flying maneuvers and can add a slight vagueness to the controls. Making the grommets tighter can help a little but then more vibration passes through the firmer mounting ears and you shorten the life of the internal components.
