Got a little issue for all the RR 9C gurus.
I'm trying to control channel 7 on a 149 PCM receiver with the top right knob VR-C. I went into aux channel screen and set channel 7 to VR-C and when I double check it in the servo screen Switch E actually controls channel 7.
I've been through every screen in the radio looking for something that I have that is controlling channel 7 to switch E (norm/Idle up).
I also went into the Hover pitch and Hover throttle screen and made sure they are both inhibited. These are generaly the top left and top right knobs

MY set up is on a Raptor V2 50, with a 401 and a GV1 with out mixture control

Anybody have any thoughts on what I could have set to control channel 7 to the idle up switch.

Open up another model and reset the menu. Then manually copy your setting to the new reset model. (Write the setting then re-enter it manually to the new model.)

When all else fails, a complete reset will do.

I have the 9CHP Super and tried it with no issues.

Usually if the govenor is mix is activated it works through the idle up switch for the different speeds, you may have to inhibit that or change it's switch assignment. That's if yours is the 9C super?

Thats what I'm in thee middle of doing now. I went to a new model and did a "reset" to clear any hidden settings. When I reassigned channel 7 to the VR-C knob then double checked in the servo screen, the knob is controlling the channel perfect. I must have something in there set on controlling channel 7 but I sure am not seeing it.

Mine is the older plain 9C not the Super.
I did double check both govenor and Gyro settings and both are set to switch E, the norm/Idle_up switch.

Any other thought or ideas?

You're not doing anything wrong. What I do know from numerous radios I setup, is that resetting back to default will fix the problem.

I have encounter issues that I could not figure out and have gone through all the menus and couldn't find a fault. This not only happens with the Futaba but also the JR radios.

This normally happens when you start messing around the menus trying to assign a switch to a particular function. If it doesn't work you try another method. After awhile the programing gets corrupted and then even a simple setup/assignment will not work.

But for my sanity, when I do have a problem that takes quite some time to figure out especially when others have tried, I will reset to default and start all over. And guess what, it will work.

Inhibit the switch E under governor, or assign it to one of the other three position switches in the governor menu, same with gyro as this is what is over-riding your VR-C function. What is it you want channel 7 to control? If it is the governor you can highlight the 'SW' and re-assign it in the governor menu. It is definitely that which is controlling channel 7. In effect it automaticcaly changes speeds when you hit IU1 or IU2,and is a feature that Futaba have when using the GV-1.
I'm not saying Girard is wrong but I have never had to reset a model memory to fix a 'glitch', and I have been using the 9Z, 9Z WC11 and now the 14MZ over a period of 15 years

DenisS is correct, it seems that the governor menu, page 2, ACT is directly link to Channel 7 and cannot be reassigned.

In other words, channel 7 will be for the governor . So if you have gov in ACT, then any VR switch cannot be assigned.

You might want to use channel 8 for a VR function.

Thanks DenisS for that one. I had to investigate and was surprise that this is just another one of those channels that are directly link to a particular function. If memory serves me right, the 14 MZ has a dedicated channel as well.

I'm building a scale Agusta 109A and trying to control Nav/Strobe lights with this knob. I know there is something I have set in my radio that I'm not seeing in the different screens. I've been through them all a dozen times but still am not seeing it. I plugged the lights into the throttle channel and they work fine. I have a Mini-Flash unit from DIYRC and I should end up with 4 switching positions with the knob, 0 - 1/4, 1/4 - 1/2. 1/2 - 3/4 and 3/4 to full turn of the knob. I set up a new model and did a reset, assigned channel 7 to the VR-C knob and the lights work perfect.
As soon as my radio is charged up (ran it down trying to figure this out) I'll have another look at the settings you suggested.

Don't use channel 7 if you have the governor menu ACT. Inhibit the gov channel and see if it will work. If it does, then you have to use another channel which means plug your nav in channel 8.

I didn't see the option to assign VR knobs for channel 8 or 9. That's the reason I went with 7. Did I miss something in there or is this another switch assigning quirk?

Did you go to the Aux menu to assign the VRC switch to channel 8? Sorry but I have a Super and I know the Aux menu are the same.

Thanks for explaining the exact menu to Peter, I don't have a 9C to hand. It seems by resetting his model it worked anyway, but I beleive that is only because the GOV menu is inhibited by default. BTW the 14MZ has no 'dedicated' channels, as any channel can be told to do anything and be controlled by any switch or stick you like, although the default models when loaded have 'optimum' channel assignments already loaded.

I would suggest you use a mix into channel 8 or 9 with the throttle channel as the master, that way your lights will follow a sequence without you having to remember to throw a switch for each position. You could even just use a 'y' lead in the throttle channel.

A "Y" harness on the throttle is exactly what I was thinking. When I plugged the Mini-Flash lead into the throttle (channel 3) on the receiver,It worked exactly as Tom (DIYRC) had explained for a rotary knob switch. Tom had sent my set up already wired and programed with different lights turning on at different knob positions. With them plugged into the throttle channel, they work in the same manner. 0 - 1/4 turn = 0 1/4 stick, 1/4 - 1/2 turn = 1/4 - 1/2 stick, 1/2 - 3/4 turn = 1/2 - 3/4 stick, and 3/4 - full turn = 3/4 - full stick.
My though was to reprogram a couple of things and have the landing lights go on at 0 1/4 stick and stay on until 1/2 stick, the nav lights come on at 1/4 stick and stay on all the way up to full and the anti-collision strobes come on at 1/2 and stay on to full stick positions.
My thought was on the throttle channel, the lights would work every time and I wouldn't have to mess around turning a knob or moving a slider every time.Make it more automatic if you will.

Using the throttle channel to automate the sequence of the nav lights is great.

Here is a picture of my first scale the day it arrived. If your going to put lights on anything, you definitely want to hook up with Tom at DIYRC. Awesome guy to work with and very customer oriented.

Check it out. I'm taking pic's along the way and am going to start a build thread on it.

Yes it is a 50 size and even at that, there isn't a whole lot of room around it! I just fit the frame into it yesterday and it's definitely going to be challenging getting it in and out of the fuselage.
