Was flying my Pantera III today (54 hours of flight time). I'm getting my inverted hovering down and then it happend. The motor died. Just stopped!
I managed to get her upright just before it hit.
Main landing skids all buggered up. And the 611 go hit by the skids.
NTSB at our field and back on the bench showed that the fuel line popped off the carb. I could just shake the chopper and the fuel line popped off every time. A silly little thing that made the visa go into melt down. CHECK YOUR FUEL LINES.

Sorry to hear that Bill. That is the type of crash I hate the most.

I suppose if you're using $0.02 fuel line, then I guess you're just asking for trouble.

This is why I double up on the fuel line.

Cut a small piece of tubing, next slip it over the fuel tube you are using. Needle nose pliers work like a charm for this.

Now put the fuel tube on carb.

Next slide up small piece of tubbing over the line. Makes a nice "clamp" of sorts.

Or you can use a zip tie.

Dood has a great post! If I only used a better type of fuel tube.
Dooding the caculations...err It was 2 cents of tubing. I could hold his hand with the math of price per foot and the small amount used from the filter to the carb, yet Im sure everybody can do this with out pictures and holding hands.
Servo gears have been replaced, and Gyro (611) has been harvested from my EVO 90. Spindle was suspect so I replaced that as well.
Ship will be flying in a few days.
Like I typed. Change your fuel lines when you cross the 4 case fuel used. Even the Clunk line should be looked at.
kmaxphil, Your going to love the MultiGov. Setup is a snap and if your having any problems let me know. I got the Mixture servo installed on Pantera II. Testing this weekend.
My two cents!!!

What is good quality fuel tube? My Pantera clunk line was in two pieces - i landed the heli and the engine died about 5 seconds later. The silicone fuel tube i used was apparently "not good quality", however it was just as expensive as the one that lasted much longer.

I prefer Prather medium or Du-Bro medium size.

I use Du-Bro medium size in all my birds. One should still check things out after 8 gallons of fuel.

Aerotrend!! Great stuff.

I check my stuff after each day of flying, links, tubing... They get tossed around quite a bit. Cant hurt to be safe.

your right! I do pre flights on every hop. Now the fuel line is a part of the check list.
Spent some time on the bench and she will fly again this weekend.

The little clamps I talked about work great for holding on the tubing. Makes it very hard to get off when they are on.

Good advice on the fuel lines, but there will always be that "little thing" missed that can cause the engine to quit no matter how hard you inspect. Practicing autos is a must, but what to do if you're inverted low down? Believe it or not, the best thing may be to just bleed off all the headspeed you can while inverted and land the heli on it's head. I've personally seen this approach twice, and neither time took the blades out, and with one of them the flybar was straigtened and flown again!

Yup..... seen it myself several years ago when Ray Stacy flipped over his Concept SRX to practice inverted hovering..... His motor didn't quit but someone had been "admiring" his new JR 10 SX radio (I believe) and accidentally moved one of the sliders on the side of the transmitter...... that slider controlled the negative pitch....

What happened is that he was too low to the ground after flipping over and did not have enough negative pitch to climb out or even sustain the hover......

The heli slowly settled to the ground on it's head and Ray shut it down at that point.....

After the head came to a stop, the heli did like a little half pirouette and stopped..... We went to pick up what we thought was going to be a pile of parts but much to our surprise, there was absolutely no damage.....

After discovering what had caused the problem, the sliders were "inhibited" , the machine was carefully checked over and flown again without any problems !!

Ray kept a cool head during this incident for sure !!

Nice call gang.
I was working my bail out move to upright. It worked, but the headspeed was nill after the move.
Happy to report the ship part replacement was 50 bucks. The electronics is 500 bucks. Again the Pantera rebuild is what JB wanted. Good flying bird and parts won't kill the VISA. Electronics on the other hand are part of the game we play.
She will fly this weekend to check things out. Then...
the new BBC mode will be put in.
I have a new OS .70 in the box and need to get a pipe and order the bbc stuff from JB.

All fixed.
New fuel lines. Replaced the main skids, tail fin, main spindle, replaced the gears in the servos and harvested the 611 gyro from the evo90.
Test hop in the morning.

The ship flys great! The motor sounds a bit unhappy. I knew it would.
The poor Hyper is two years old with many cases of fuel thru her.
Now that I know the ship flys again....
My LHS ordered me a OS Max-70SZ-Hring motor. I picked it up today and WOW! You could drive a truck thru the carb.
Gave JB a call and have a BBC upgrade on it's way.
Sometimes a 2 cent part turns into a monster.
If all goes well. Pantera III will morf into BBC II.
