HIROBO Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > EVO 50 collective servo

I have a 9252 as the collective servo on my EVO 50. I'm trying to set-up the collective for 0 pitch at 50%, which isn't exactly working out, and will probably be a question posted shortly if I can't find the reason. While trying to work on it tonight, when I turned on the heli switch, the collective servo had a constant slight buzz instead of the intermittent buzzing of a digital servo. This is with the collective stick at 50%. The servo makes no sound if I rest my finger on the "T" lever with no pressure applied. I disconnected the vertical rod from the "T" lever and the buzzing stops. It seems as though the weight of the swash plate is causing this buzzing. Also when I turn off the power switch on the heli, the swash plate slides down the shaft to the bottom. Is this normal for the 9252 not to hold the weight of the swash plate when power is turned off? I've never noticed this before because the collective is usually at the bottom when the switch is turned off. It's a new servo so hopefully it's OK.
Thanks.
Dave

The only time I've had a swash drop like that is without servos attached.

Digital servos BUZZZ. Its normal.

9252 are not going to hold when off, they are smooth moving on table with no power applied.

Thanks for the relies. Sounds like the servo is OK. It had me worried when just holding everything at 50% caused the slight steady buzzing, much the same as when binding occurs, but not as loud. As for not holding, you're right, they are a very smooth moving servo with no power applied. It's the first time using 9252's so wasn't sure what was normal.
Thanks again,
Dave

Normal.

You ought to hear the elevator servos in a big IMAC plain holding up the halves against the control surface weight<g>.

Dr.Ben,
Thanks,Now I can concentrate on doing the mechanical set-up on the collective and not think maybe the servo is at fault. Looks like it's a case of "pilot error". I'm going to start from the beginning again and make sure all rods are the correct manual length and I haven't missed something very obvious. Always seem to get +2 degrees at 50%.
Thanks to all for helping with servo question,
Dave

Yes the weight of the system causes the swash to drop to the bottom on the sceadu....perfectly normal and indicates a nice free non binding system. The Collective servo will buzz in this situation almost continually and if you take the pressure off with a light touch of your finger it will stop.
No problem here at all.

Dude forget the manual linkage lengths.

are you setting up for a full 3D pitch range?

Start from the servo horn and get all your connections and linkages at 90 degress as normal. For the collective pitch arm set it up as per the manual to make sure it's mid throw. (look at the little window behind the pitch arm and when it's right it should be centered)

Then just adjust your links to suit. As the elevator arm links are non adjustable adjust your aileron link to level the swash....then get your washout arms level with each other and you mixing arms level with each other....makes your links to suit and viola...it will hit a nice 0 at mid and probably +/- 11 to 12 depending on your throws etc. (use the ball hole on the collective pitch arm to suit here)

Oh and don't forget to zero out the radio before starting. Sub, trim, curves, mixes etc.

Helinutnz,
Thanks for the advice on the collective set-up. I especially found the tip on using the empty servo location for centering the collective pitch arm. As you mentioned, I ended up at +11&1/4 and -11&1/4 with 0 degrees at 50%. All that's left now is do the radio set-up and check the phasing, which is probably off after all the changes were made. Oh yea, one more thing to do, get some fuel in it and get it in the air.
Thanks again,
Dave
