Coleman Gas Runs Hot!!

I just tried running my Z230 gas heli with the Coleman gas, with 2oz. of Amsoil to the gallon., it seemed to run just like using gasoline, but I did notice it ran really HOT!!, The muffler was so hot, you could not touch it!, is this normal?, I think I will stick with gasoline, and 2oz. of Amsoil, just to be safe. My needles were set per Bill Meadors recomendations at 1 3/8 low,1 1/8 high, Any thoughts on this.....Thanks!, Joe

Joe, its going to run a little hottor running this fuel...Don't even touch the engine The cooling systems running in the PUh designs are not as good as the RC 230 cooling system...They run a lot cooler running this fuel..
But, don't worry about it, the engine will let you know if its to hot...It will start bucking, or just quit...Long as your running smooth, and keep the rpms up, you'll be ok....The high humid 95 and 100 deg days, you might want to go back to gas, if it starts to act up...I'm running it my Xcell, and its doing real good...
Don't touch stuff, just fly

I would not recommend putting your tonque to the muffler. Its supposed to be hot. Just like a weed wacker or chain saw.

I lost my infamous tag line.

I'm glad you could get and answer. I asked the same question over a week ago and couldn't even buy an answer .

Did someone else named Fireman-Dave rip someone off in here. that was my first post anywhere , I thought i asked some valid questions???

I'm running x-cell gas graphite ,23 puh with wt603 card . needles 1 3/8 and 1 3/8 . temps with a raytec temp gun are 290 degrees on a 80 air temp. running ozark fuel on amsoil 64 :1. I have the new bergen muffler on the exhaust. the heli cools quickly but I'm just not sure of the temp, it just seems a little to hot. I'm running 700 mm mains and 105 mm on the tail. 1650 head speed in hover at 5 degrees pitch.

we did a test with a friends bergen conversion , he has a g23puh with a wt603 carb, min air 4030 muffler system, needles low 1 3/8 high 1 1/4
reg pump gas on amsoil 64:1 he has 690 mm main blades with 105 mm tail. still 1650 rotorhead speed in hover.

His temps ran a steady 240 degrees with the same outside air temp.
only three main differences between the 2 helis

1> his has the bergen fan system.
on my gasser i was very careful to set the shroud to fan clearance to 1 mm. I also sealed the bottom of shroud to the mounting base to reduce the amount of air loss or blowby.

2> the muffler systems- does the aluminum being thicker retain more heat than the stainless steel ?????? I had heard on this and other forums that the min air 4030 was a little more restrictive than some people liked. they said to much back pressure.

3> the fuel again i have seen other posts that stated the latern fuel ran hotter but 50 degrees seems a little excessive. I had made a mental note to ask Bill about his comment about adding more oil to this fuel but is changing the mix to 50:1 going to drop the temp 50 degrees???
Seems a little far fetched to me.....1/2 oz = 50 degree drop

now i love the latern fuel for the following reasons
1. NO Smell, no smell, no smell
2. No Carbon ( at all-- cleanest motor inside i've ever seen)
3. No fin buzz period......
4. No powerloss
5. Did i mention no smell, no smell ,no-smell

one other difference between the 2 birds, mine has 8 gallons of fuel through it 2-ozark, 6-gasoline all on amsoil .........his has 1 1/2 gals gasoline .

Those glow freaks can say what they want but this heli climbs like like a demon, i have not done a full power climb yet.......I'm to scared to. If it climbs this quick right side up what's it gonna do when i finnally get the nerve to fly it upside down. Heavy- who says gassers fly heavy mine stops with just a touch of left stick......govenor who needs a stinking govenor just set it up correctly, less electronics to worry about. Oh the Auto's , this thing will hold itself off the ground seems like forever!!!!!!!!

It has taken me over a year to get things to this point with my Gasser. I work 2 jobs, 56 hour's a week with fire dept and about 30 hour's a week with local hobby shop..... Oh no not one of those guys . Thank goodness I've got a loving wife that said I get to quit the Hobby shop . Tomorrow is my last day 04-30-03 , Chopper is right , weather is right and on my very first Saturday off in 5 years I'm going to sanford for the fly in. I wanted to go to Sulfur La but I could not get coverage at the fire station.......

My wife said all I have to do now on my days off is FLY,FLY fly (and work on a few honey Do's..... She said something about needing the step ladder out of the barn to add a few things to my list....... Next year gonna be in birmingham, going to sulfur , going ,going going over the edge is what I'm doing....... going to climb down off my soapbox now and let someone else talk for a while.....

Oh and by the way I've been lurking in this forum for quite a while now and want to sincerely thank all those who have helped unknowingly with my quest with the gasser. your help has been greatly appreciated...

Sorry about such a long post , I've been cooped up for such a longgggg
time......

It would seem that just about any small-motors shop can order it. I haven't done so yet, but in checking around, they cost in the neighborhood of 54 bucks or so.
