Hi, just finished the grips install. and they are stiff as hell (they don't rotate freely, I can even feel the balls in the bearings). What have I done wrong? Everything is on as the manual said, greased it well... is it possible that the rubbers are in crooked?

Thanks'

I would pull it all apart and reinstall just incase something didn't seat correctly.

It seems that your bearings are not well placed or the thrusts bearings outside parts are mixed inside/out(they are not the same size).

If you loose the tightening bolt, does it stay hard to move ?

Dampening rubbers should be equal to the main case. You are not supposed to see them between the main head and the holders.

Did you push the rubbers with the holders ?

I found that the outer washer for the thrust bearing (small hole) did not fit onto the spindle and I had to sand the spindle down. The bearings would get tight as I tried to tighten the spindle bolts. Pull out the spindle and try to fit the washer onto it, you will see what I am talking about.

Upon assembly the blade grips arn't exactly what you could call smooth. They don't fall under they own weight which is normal. In order to find out if you assembled the thing wrong or if its just normal tightness, you should grap both grips with your hands and pull outwards. If you can move the grips easily without feeling the bearing balls in that position, you're fine. If you can still feel notchiness, you assembled something wrong and should pull the head apart and check the thrust bearing position, shims, etc

I would pull it apart, and go over the assembly again. The thrust bearings are not labeled "in" "out" and it is easy to get them backwards.

This machine goes together like a glove. You shouldn't have to machine or sand anything. IMO you should use a set of calipers to measure some of the parts to ensure you are using the correct part in the correct place. It is easy to swap washers, nuts, or put a bearing in backwards?

I'd rather be flying

Thanks' guys, since I posted I did what hovernut said and took it apart and I found out that the rubbers were too packed with grease and they did not fit entirely in the head. When I tightened it up, it (I presume) loaded the bearing too much. Aerowizzard, the bearings in the grip are well seated.
Now, I took some of the grease out, refitted the rubbers and all and the side that I build first is smooth (it almost fall by its own weight) and the side that is built up on the head is still stiff (not as much as before). Like jadams said, that outer bearing washer it a tight fit on the shaft but mine fit well only if I push it evenly on the shaft. So, when I fit that last grip, there is no play on the shaft to allow me to push that washer on the shaft, so it is relying on the bolt and 4mm washer to push it on... so I think that washer is not proper on the shaft and I end up prying the thrust washer in the grip... does this make any sense? Tony, now that the grease is out, I don’t feel the bearings anymore, just stiffness, but I think you are write with the thrust bearing seating. Any way, it is too late now, will look at it tomorrow.
Thank you...
