Bergen R/C Helicopters > Bergen Gasser, Done!

After spending several months researching which gasser to purchase, I went with the Bergen Intrepid. I had read several posts regarding the Bergen from those of you who have been in this hobby, and those of you who do this sort of thing for a living. It seemed all of you had positive experiences with Bergen. I wasn't at all disappointed with my choice.

The machine is well crafted and made from quality parts. The thing that astounded me the most was the support I received from Larry Bergen himself. As this was my first gasser, I had numerous questions and concerns. I probably bugged the hell out of Larry cause I called him at least 2-3 times a week. Sometimes I called him more than once in one day! Larry is the nicest, most patient person I know. He was always willing to help and talk me through any questions I had. The best part is, he always did it with a laugh. I never got the impression he was bothered by my annoyance. Thanks Larry!

And thanks to Bill Meador, the gasser guru! Bill, your set-up is working just awesome on the G26! Thanks again!

Jimsair,

I am considering the Bergen gasser but I don't know a thing about them. I looked on their web site and their pics are not that great. Would you happen to have some pics that you could post here or email them, cdrking@aol.com.

Can this heli do some good 3D? How is the build, easy, good instructions, etc.?

Would appreciate all the info you have.

Jeff

Jeff,

There is a thread from Malorie with the manual download. The pictures are nice and clear. The helicopter builds very easy, the manual is done well. There were just a couple of things that needed updating, but they are easy to figure out. The nice thing is, you can call Bergen direct. They are more than generous in helping you with anything you need. There are also a load of people on RR that will help you out anytime.

As far as 3D, Malorie I hear 3D's the heck out of hers. I personally am using mine as a camera platform so I won't be doing any 3D.

Hope this helps Jeff, you really can't go wrong buying a Bergen. The support is top notch. Good luck, and feel free to ask questions anytime.

Best Regards

If there is anything else we can help with feel free to post questions here or PM me directly. I try to log in a couple of times a day. It is flying season though.

Jeff, The Bergen is a Fine Machine that you will be proud of. I have flown Vario Gassers for awhile and Found the Bergen Gasser to be well engineered! The Precision of the Bergen shows in it's stable Flight and Quickness of responce when you want to dance! This big beautiful machine purrs like a kitten in hover but, will mix it up and show its colors when your ready, It Will Do Anything!! I've been respectfully suprised by it's looks and performance! Here are a couple of shots of my Gasser -- Soon to be a Huey 205!

Thanks Dr. Tim,

How much does your machine weigh? How is the fuel/oil mix mess, is it an oily mess? Do you mix only when ready to fly or can you mix a batch and then store it for awhile? As you can tell I don't know much about these machines but they are gaining my interest.

Thanks for the pics.

Not sure of the weight -- probably 12 lbs. or so. I mix Synthetic (BelRay H1) oil 50:1 in a 2 Gallon jug. My machines stay pretty clean!! About 1/10th the mess of a .60 to .90 size engine. The big plus is NO FIELD EQUIPMENT!!! Just your Gas and Radio!! Have Fun!!

The stock Gasser is about 12 1/2 lbs ready to fly with the G26.

I mix my gas at the gas station on the way to the field and keep it until it's gone.

The Gassers do require that you oil things, they don't oil themselves like the glow machines do.

Tim is kind of a clean machine flyer. I haven't wiped oil off my gasser in months. I do have to wipe the bugs off the blades every now and again. Just fuel it fly it and do your maintenance.

I get a chuckle every time I fly it and think how little I've spent on fuel for how much fun I've had.

Okay you guys. That's it for me. I've been thinking of what gasser to buy and I now know it's the Bergen. Dr. Tim, we met at the Phoenix Fun Fly but I know you don't remember me. Once I get the gasser, I hope you don't mind me asking questions of you (to give Larry a bit of a break).
Now then, I can order the Intrepid with the G26, correct?
Also, unless I misread the Bergen website, what would the cost be of the Intrepid with G26 and torque tube?

Look me up! I will be More than Happy to let you Fly My Bergen Gasser! These are Extreemly Smooth!! Your going to love it! Till then.

Dr. Tim,
I think I have pictures of you, by the way
As for speaking to 2 Barry's, I would have been the less blurry one!!!
Hmmm, G231PUH. So that is the standard for the kit then?

Better fix the Camera if you do
The G231 is the Standard , I would sudjest the Tail output Box Upgrade as well as the Elevator Yoke. These Upgrades really improve things.
Hope to Fly with you soon!

Dr. Tims Gasser

I've been lucky enough to fly Tim's gasser (thanks Tim) and you'll be very happy with one like his. Although I haven't flown any other Gasser before I can say it was as comfortable as my Freya 91, even more so in the wind.

Okay,
Question: I am getting some flak from people about radio interference problems and the cost of gassers vs glow because of radio related crashes. So, do you guys really see a radio noise issue/problem?

NO!

I have never had a Problem .... I use Nothing But PCM .... Just keep the Receiver Clear of the Spark Plug and you should not have a Problem.

Ditto Barry. I have never had an issue. PCM only, the NGK resistor plug, and some basic common sense. I also run Deans base loaded antennas, up front away from the ignition. You don't want to drool the ant wire back to the tail on a gasser.

Hey rchelial

I will have to disagree with the antenna. I have ran my antenna back to the tail and have not had any problems with this setup at all.
