just got a new battery from Tower and was wondering how long to charge it for the 1st time. It is the batt that runs the starter. 12v 4.5amp

Also, does the charger you got have a "discharge mode"...???
Let us know and we can help you out.
A "NEW" battery should be cycled at least two/three times to obtain maximum peak charge (Only NMH's)

It's a 12volt lead-acid that he was going to charge with a wall wart. Well the batt was already charged, Had 13.98 volts on it.

I would use any automotive type trickle/quick charger!
