Radio - JR & Spektrum DSM > AR7100R ATV&RPM Example???

I'm setting up my 7100R & X9303. In the 7100R manual there is a diagram that shows 100% to be 20500rpm, just below that there is an example of Engine RPM/Travel adjustments for Spectrum/JR that shows 100% to be 17340. Is this saying that if I set the limiter to 100% then my motor RPM will be at 17,340? I don't have a tach so I want to make sure I'm setting this up correctly.

There is no direct correlation between radio setting and headspeed with the RevMax. Changing your throttle curve also changes the headspeed. You will have to use a tach to set your headspeed.

You can use this calculator to get you pretty damn close without using a tach (although a tach is still necessary to verify the final settings). This is the calculator for the Throttle Jockey Pro and the RevMax. I used this calculator for 7100R's on an Aurora, N9 and 600N before I pulled all the receivers and went back to R921's for other reasons. When I tach'ed each, the headspeed was always within +/- 30 rpm of my goal. So, while it's not perfect, it will certainly get in the ballpark and then you can make the final adjustments using a tach. Or if you don't have a tach, it should get you close enough.

Thanks!

I was already using this for my TJ Pro but I didn't realize I could change it to RevMax. I'll have to use this for now as I don't yet own a tach. I guess I could just buy one but if this calculator will get me withing 30RPM or so, than that is close enough for me. Thanks again!

The calculator hardly ever worked for anyone I know and usually resulted in a much higher than desired headspeed; so please be careful. As I said, with the RevMax, even your throttle curve influences your headspeed for a given Aux channel setting. E.g., you will have to reset your headspeed if you set it and then bump the throttle curve to 100%.

I'm not trying to argue, maybe I just don't understand what you are saying. I've used the RevMax units for a long time and simply changing the throttle curve only has no effect on the headspeed unless you drop the curve below the setpoint, in which point it's not limiting any more since it's already lower. Now, if you adjust the ATV's on the throttle channel then you do have to recalibrate as this will have an effect on what headspeed a given setpoint equates to.

Regarding the calculator, the accuracy may vary depending on what radio is being used. The prior version of the calculator I found to be problematic, but this version I have found to be very accurate with both my XP9303 and now 12X (using the X9303 selection). Maybe I'm just getting lucky, but I've always been within 20-30 rpm of what I was looking for when I tach'd it. I'm not saying don't use a tach, but hopefully using the calculator will at least give you a value to start with. If you're worried about it being too high, you can always take the values the calculator gives you and start a couple percentage points lower as a starting point.

Very good advice.

Thanks guys

I'm going to use the calculator for now with reduced values to be safe until my tach gets here. My throttle is set at 100/100 right now so it should work out good I'm hoping.
