| I had major problems last summer with clutches on a Ergo Z230. When the first broke, I replaced everything new including the clutch bell. This lasted about a dozen flights and the new clutch broke. Replaced the clutch twice more with the same results (I did get real good at emergency landings with only half a clutch).
I called my LHS, Great Hobbies, and they sent me new parts free after talking to Horizon. A more experienced local flyer helped me install the new gear (he installed , I watched) and found the cleanance to be hugh with the stock parts.
Assembled liner / bell ID: 1.736"
show OD @ flex / shoe contact area: 1.694"
Spacing between liner and clutch: .042" (each show would have to expand .021" before contacting the liner.)
This would easily cause the clutches to break. He shimmed the liner up, checked all parts on a lathe and it works fine now (.008" per side clearance).
