Come on, 2 gallons of fuel, that's nothing get 30 through the engine then look at it.

Damn that ground is hard!

Gallons don't matter. The right fuel, the right tuning and listening to your machine and you can have this after almost 300 flights (287 to be exact):

For those who wonder... 287 flights at 330cc per flight = 26 gallons

@ tchavei

You can go much leaner. In reality, you want to run as lean as you can, while leaving a small margin for error.

You are WAY overly rich. That motor could very safely be making quite a bit more power.

I fired up my first glow motor in 1977-1978. In my entire time modeling, I have burned up one motor. I am a very conservative tuner and I can tell you that your motor can be a lot leaner than that.

In order to be that clean, you are never even getting the combustion process at the hottest part of the motor anywhere near the flashpoint of the oil.

The piston from a perfectly tuned motor will have a light varnish (green for CP15% or brown for all other fuels) which can be scraped from the top of the piston with a fingernail or a piece or soft wood like a popsicle stick.

If you are happy, keep doing what you are doing, but you can get way more power out of that motor safely.

Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours

Max rich is 2.20 Turns..... & Max lean is 1.80 Turns.

Yes I agree with Mr Fuzz , your probably washing the top of that piston by running too rich.

Mines on 1.5 .

Most important thing is check to make sure your engine is a nice temp on the back plate after a flight .

If its cold then click her in , other wise it will do more harm than good.

over 230 flights on one of my hypers (in a Raptor) and absolutely no problems so far. This engine still makes great power! I run WC 3DLV.

Swoop: Never changed one because of wear out. Only as preventive mantainance (every 200 flights or so).

Inspector Fuzz: Actually I run my engines on the limit. 245F on the head is pretty common. I'm running 20% nitro so I need to run it lean to have the power.

Just as a curiousity, that engine lasted 10 flights more and then siezed at 387F when the needle o-rings started to leak. Had to rebuild it (ring, piston, liner) and obviously carb.

This is a great thread. Usually threads with similar titles are accompanied with pictures of burned up engines with holes in their pistons.

the piston on my Hyper 50 looked like the first photo (s) after 2.6 gallons but the rear bearing was shot ,, the side of my piston looked as if the engine was never started..
