Engines Plugs Mufflers Fuel > YS91, Help Needed !

Hi,
I recently bought a YS91 for my Fury Extreme with 8.45 gearing. The pipe is CY MP-2 and I am using 10% nitro.

My question is this combo OK. After 3 tanks with rich settings, It doesn't sound so good plus power is kinda very slugesh.
I know it is running rich but it is acting different.
While spooling up, I get nice rpm's at mid stick but as soon as I pass mid stick, it kinda loads up big time and even it is very hard to hover.
My needle settings are:
High: 1.2 turn out
Mid: 1
Low at factory

From mid to high stick, It would not give me power as It should i guess. I tried leaning a little the high needle but not much help.
The smoke is OK. Not too much though.

Is it normal, and I do need a lot more fuel to burn.

Just curious, please help.

Regards,

Arshad

On 10% nitro, it's gonna be a PITA to get it tuned.... It will tune out, but you're gonna have to play with it.

And, are you tuning the right needles? On a YS engine, the larger needle is the MID, not the HIGH...

You think your kids are expensive now?

Just wait until they move out!!

Thanks for your comment.

Yes, I know the nitro is on low side but can't get any better and the needle settings are reverse than os engines.

I have ran OS50SX, and some other aeroplane engines on same fuel no problem though.
I'm little concerned about this MP-2 pipe plus should I remove or add shims on the head.? cuz I'm low on nitro.
On mid stick I have good rpm's but after mid, it slows down.
Should I be tweeking high needle or mid to fix that.

Thanks

Arshad

Your high speed setting is well on the rich side, and you hover needle may well be too lean.

Go back and reset the high speed to one turn open and the hover needle to 1.5 turns open.

Hover the model at about 1500-1600 rpm headspeed. Lean in the hover needle to the point the engine tries to cackle after a quick descent from rapid, short climb. At that setting, richen the hover needle back about 4 clicks.

Next go up and fly around at WOT and with a pitch setting that DOES NOT bog the head. This is NO place for 14 degrees of pitch. Carefully needle in the head speed until the engine holds a clean sound at WOT throttle. You can expect the needle to be setting critical since you're running a fuel well below the nitro percentage for which this engine was designed to run.

Remember that any additional leaning of the hover needle, such as when the engine further breaks in, will also lean the high speed mixture, so allow for this before you just go puching up into FF after such a midrange adjustment.
