Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 30 6v system setup

So Im building the Raptor 30 and have decided to go with a 6v setup, 9452's on cyclic, 9254 and gy401 on tail. and not sure yet on throttle. I was thinking about the align 2 in 1 but have read alot of problems with them...so...I think im just going to keep it simple and use a standard 6v nicd somewhere in the mid 2000 ma range.

Would this suffice until I decided to upgrade later on?

I know I need a step down for the tail servo, But would I need a regulator for the other servos or can I run it unregulated?

Would it be better to get a 7.4 nicd and regulate it?

since the 401 only likes 4.8v. as well as the 9254 ..is that where the step down comes in (between the rx and the gyro)

Thanks for the help.

9252 and 9254 servos are only good for 4.8/5v. You will either have to run a step down regulator on all the servos or change all the servos to 6v servos.

About the best you can do with your existing servos is to get a 6v battery and a 5.1 or 5.2v regulator to run everything. That would be my recommendation.

the 401 does not have an issue with 6v. Only the 9254. You need to drop the 9254 voltage to 4.8.
And 5 cell is not "6 volt", it is 7.1 or so full charged.

Not trying to talk down, but its a 30. Do you really need 6V. Would seem much easier to run 4.8V with no reg and be done with it.

Thanks for the replies...but Ben-T I never mentioned the 9252 servos...I said 9452 which are 6v servos...

As for swoops comment...Your not talking down, If its best to just keep it simple and do that then I will. Ill just buy a 4.8 nicd with mid 2000 ma. The servos have a little more speed and torque at 6v but being a 30 and only sport flying.....I guess that it wont factor in too much.

I tend to get "caught" up in the forums...I quickly forget how to keep things simple...

I just went reading the specs on the 9452's I was going to use for cyclic and they are only rated at 6v...I guess thats why I was going for the 6v setup regulated. I guess my above post about keeping it simple wont work with theese servos.

I'm running (3) 9452's on my Predator gasser off A123's non regulated. They get charged to 7.2v. But I aggree, that this is overkill for a 30. I have a 30 with 3152's in it that I run off the same A123 setup. The Digital 3152's come standard with the 2.4 Heli radio. They are also rated for 6v and seem to do quite well on the A123's. No problems yet.

Keep in mind, if you run a 9254 tail servo, you'll have to step it down. I use a Spektrum VR5203 for this.

The VR5203 outputs 5.2v is that ok for the tail and gyro since its rated at 4.8? Have you had any problems running both the gyro and the tail servo on it?

I have (3) of the VR5203 running in 3 different heli's dropping voltage to the gyro and tail servo. All on A123's. Never a problem. All running unregulated to the cyclic and throttle servos.

i never knew this until after i bought them but the 9452's are only for use with NiMh. so they arent supposed to be used with the 2 in 1. so now i have a brand new regulator not being used.

You'll need the regulator for the gyro and tail servo. They should only be ran at 5.4v max. An A123 setup has max volts of 7.2v where a nimh tops off at 7.5v. So your 9452's are VERY HAPPY running straight off A123's unregulated....

Spyder, the 9452s work great with the 2-1. I ran that setup on my R50 for a while with no problems. I also run them on my Aurora with a 2 cell lipo at 6.5 volts regulated without any problems.
