e-E-Sky Honey Bee- Lama- Belt CP- E-Smart > Tail servo stops moving

When I first power up the HBK2 and the gyro sets, all servos work great. Here is the issue when I throttle up the tail servo stops working, I get no movement and the gyro light begins to blink. If I disconnect power and reconnect again everything works fine until I throttle up.. So I hooked up another servo to see if I got the same results. Yep! Same issue so it’s not the servo. What could be the cause?

Check to see if the other servos are active.

If they are then the prob is that the gyro is not initializing.

If everything is dead then the ESC is toast.

All servos work the gyro does initialize at first but blinks after I throttle up. The only servo that stops working is the tail. The ESC is new one week old.

I suspect wires-connector

As it initializes first then goes into the described state AFTER giving throtle, which induces movement-vibrations, I strongly suspect the wires to the ESC...something is shorting thus resetting it.

OK here is what I’ve determined. I tried another servo and got the same results. I then plugged the servo directly into the receiver (by passing the gyro) and it worked fine. So it’s not the servo. I think it’s the gyro. I hate to have to purchase another part for this HBK2. I have spent more $$ keeping this heli in the air than I have on my Nitro’s. It’s too fragile I’m about to give up on this machine. I don’t want to put a 401 gyro on this machine any suggestions on a gyro upgrade that doesn’t break the bank?

I find it hard to believe that you have put more money into the king than a nitro bird, but as far as a gyro goes I have used the Align $60 one and that worked fairly well. I also just picked up the telebee, but have not tried it out yet.

The gyro is a possibility, but I suspect its the BEC in the ESC. What ESC are you running? Why not try the HobbyWing BEC before the gyro. Its only $12 and you should be running a seperate BEC anyway.

GY240 get em used for around $75 in the classifieds I use one on my king and REX love those simple little things. You know, you bought a cheap heli you get a cheap heli. But Esky produces the best of the cheapies. I bought the barebones kit and put my own stuff in it. The mechanical stuff is top notch on the king if setup properly NO MODDING NECESSARY! Except the electronics I mean come on you didnt expect good stuff for a $150RTF? Barebones is the way to go on the King unfortunately. Good news is when the new one comes out in september theyll have to dump the old ones for next to nothing.
Start saving up for an Esky fleet boys!

What is the BEC? The ESC is NEW no more than 2weeks old and hardly used. I'm running the brushless Motor 40g 3900 RPM/V 25A speed controller.

Stock you get a combo device that provides electricity as you probably know for the motor and the electronics. Motor part is ESC Electronic speed control. BEC is battery eliminator circuit for the radio to use the motor battery power.

Here is the problem The stock combo ESC/BEC is on the edge of burning up as is its not meant to run an 11.1v lipo it has to burn off 6V down to 5V to run the radio this makes extra heat in the unit and you put 4 servos on their it overworks it most are made for only 3 at 11.1V. So a lot of us have a seperate BEC that uses the motor battery for radio power but is not part of the ESC and can handle more load of 4 servos some are even digital a big gyro and even 2.4ghz receivers. I use a castle creations UBEC this one for $20 doesnt burn off the extra voltage it switches on and off really fast (not sure the exact rate but microseconds or so) it does this so it only samples 5V of the 11.1 making it efficient and isnt even warm after a flight.

But you say its just the tail servo and the others work the ESC/BEC is not the problem its gotta be in the gyro chain or maybe simply just a half dead servo.

Unplug the gyro and plug the tail servo right into the receiver and test it now the tail will try to spin uncontrollably on you so dont fly it. Just see if the problem disappears.

Not just plug servos into it but did You Bypass the gyro and plug the rudder servo in its slot on the receiver and it works? You spooled up the heli and were able to kick the rudder around on the ground and all was fine?

If so theres your answer.

Process of elimination my friend If you did the above the gyro could be faulty and not sending out the right signal from the receiver. A gyro also controls the speed of the servo and if you had a programmable radio it could adjust endpoints and all the good stuff.

Flyhigh8, If you are using the stock Esky rate gyro that blinks red real quick then turns soild , then starts blinking again, it's definately the gyro, that is the culprit. Almost any HH gyro on the market is more reliable than the stock rate gyro initializes-- then doesn't initializes-- then doesn't

Update

Received the new gyro today (same as original). Everything works great wish I could could afford a better gyro. However most of the utube vids on the HBK2 show the original gyro so I stuck with the original. Hope this one is O.K. for the long haul....

Up Up and away! unfortunatly is raining today

good to hear your going again a gyro is a gyro some are just way better than others yours will teach you how to fly the tail thats for sure. But when you get lazy there are some good ones that the tail just locks and doesnt move at all. heres my GY240.
