Well I decided to replace my fan due to some slop in the contact area where the start drive turns it. Low and behold look what I found.... I was wondering why the engine was running hot. As I started to remove the fan I also noticed the main nut was finger tight, That's not good. I then tore down the entire engine and gave it a real good go over. Needless to say, it is back together and ready to fly. I guess it's good to go over the bird once in a while. That is something I will do a little more often.

The reason the fins broke off is because the nut securing it came loose.

Consequently, it was able to make contact with the top of the shroud - result - broken fins.

Next time, when installing the new fan (stock or CNC) be sure to use something to keep the crankshaft from turning as you screw the clutch onto the crankshaft (using locktite of course) and the same when you tighten down the prop nut that secures the fan.
