Silvashadow Senior Heliman Location: Bexley, Kent, UK
| After almost two years of flying at least one day a week, at least 300 flights and one or two cases of fuel my Hawk Pro 50 went down on Sunday. Yes Oldfart not a real Century Heli but one sold by Century UK.
I'd had a great day on Saturday and was really feeling in the groove on Sunday when I lost drive lowish and inverted. Got it down reasonably well, all I done was to bend the tail boom and feathering spindle. Main shaft and blades were good to go as was the tail drive shaft. However the heli had 'eaten' the main gear, lay shaft and upper side frames. The clutch had spread and jammed solid where it oversped before I got throttle hold on.
Cause of arrival was a failed upper layshaft bearing. It had siezed, moved in the frames (melted) and taken a couple of thou off the shaft dia. After so many flights with a head speed around 1950 on 620mm blades I don't think anybody can complain. Yes I know about the three bearing mod or adding two extra 11mm OD bearings. Mine was stock and will go back stock.
All parts have been ordered today to get her back in the air for later in the week or next weekend. Bring on the next 300 flights with this cheap, reliable, fun machine.
