Scale Model RC Helicopters > 1st flight today with 5 blades!

I made my first flight today with the Vigor sporting the OF five blade head. I was pleasently surprised at how stable it was, once my hands stopped shaking!

I have at least one blade slightly out of track and the throttle curve needs a bit of tweeking, but over all I'm very pleased.

I'm using the OF head, swash, swash follower and 620 mm OF blades. I'm using no electronic mixing or gyros on the head. Next time out, I want to get the tracking squared away and the throttle curve adjusted. My plan is to then do some more hovering until I get the "feel" for it and then on to see what forward flight will be like.

Once I'm satisfied with how it's flying, it will be time for the tear down and conversion over to torque tube drive for the tail. While I have it apart, I'm thinking seriously about adding a governor. Next step will be getting it installed into the Sea King fuselage.

And The Flybar Is Gone!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the world of flybarless and multi's....
I think the biggest problem with them is only getting used to the "feel" of it and learning how and when to react to each movement... but after you get the hang of it, they do look great!!!!!
Good Luck and let us know how you are doing with it... and pics too!!!!

Stan

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!

That Trex 450 Airwolf in your gallery is impressive. Retracts and beautiful paint job. I'm putting you on my 'How To Guy' when I get around to finishing my CH-47 body.

Thanks guys! I had hoped to have video of the first flight, but my buddy with the camera wasn't able to make it to the field today. I hope that will change with the 2nd flight.

As for pictures, the only one I have at this time is the "naked" shot sitting on the bench without the canopy.

Paul, sadly the Airwolf is under going repairs after an unfortunate incounter with the ground. Other than a bit of chipped paint on the "doghouse", the fuselage was undamaged. After I install a new main shaft, flybar, spindle shaft and blades, it will good as new. It really looks cool when the wheels retract!
