I have just put together my Raptor 30 and broke in the engine. Nothing but negative feedback has been stated about the stock TT-36 engine. I'm knowledgeable about Nitro engines (from R/C cars) and recognize that OS provides the highest standard in terms of quality and reliability. What is so bad about the TT-36 compared to the OS-32? I don't want to "throw away" a brand new TT engine, but if inconsistancy is a major issue with this enigne, I think spending $120 on an OS is cheaper than a crash from the TT engine stalling out during flight. What do you think? Thanks for your feedback.

Some people have good luck with the TT36 but most DON"T.If you have it in your heli now fly it and see what you think. I had good luck with mine for about 4 months and then it was just a pain in the A$$ so I went with the OS32 and never looked back.

I agree completly, I have seen some that run great. But most do not. 1 of the guys that I fly with is an RC veteran and a Futaba field rep. He went through 2 of them before he finally went with an OS. He will tell you that they are great, as a paper weight. I have another buddie that has been hurting on one for quite a while. He doesnt realy like its performance. But he can get it to do OK. He is a field rep for Mini-air. I have seen some strange things from them. Leaking front bearings, broken crankshafts, and of course very finakey tuneing. But I would also say that if you already have it, give it a shot. If you decide after giving a fair chance that you don't like it, then get the OS. I personally built my Raptor with the OS to start with becouse I love their quality. But it was a gift (the heli as well as the engine) but I am betting that if it would have come with the TT36, I would have atleast given it a chance to disapoint me. But thats just one mans thoughts. Would I go out and buy one? No. But would I give a free one a chance? I would think so.

Then to me, after spending $1000 on everything else, the extra $119 is worth it not to have headaches or stalling in flight. I know the clutch is a direct fit, but just wanted to confirm if the muffler is also? Thanks for your replies.

I agree with the above, but, I guess I had some good luck with them, I have one that it doesn't want to quiet!!...strong running engine, the others that I have not much luck with them, I know there is a problem with the design of the carburetor, I fix the problem on my engine with the OS 4D carburetor and they run great, strong and consistent. It seem to work good with the OS 4D Carburetor...

Eat, Sleep, Fly 3D.....Catch me if you can!

I can also get behind the card swap. I have yet another friend that has a TT36 with an OS carb on it. And he realy likes it. Before the carb swap the engine sucked. But with an OS carb it runs pretty good. So that is another option as well.

Yup.. The carburetor is the major problem.
So instead of spending money to get the OS carburetor (which is not cheap). Why don't go all the way for the whole OS engine.
So you don't have to worry about your engine anymore when you fly. Just concentrate on flying.

My Raptor came with the Thunder Tiger motor. I tried and tried to get it ro run right, but I never did. Several of the "experts" at my field could not get it to work either.

I put in a new OS 32SX-H and it has been running perfect for the last two years. It has never flamed out in flight.

Guys, I can't thank you enough for convincing me. I took out that cra* TT-36 engine and replaced it with the OS-32. Unbelieveable - started up with no problems the first time and very, very stable. Anyone out there looking to buy a Raptor, it is a great heli, but PLEASE, PLEASE do yourself a favor and don't buy it with the stock 36!

Bravo ! Good to hear that you can start flying your heli instead of playing with the engine.
This is a major problem in the Heli world. So many beginners got fed-up with their helis, because of the junk engines they bought from the hobbyshop. They think Heli sucks!
Unfortunately they really sucks your pocket!
