I was trying to view Phoenix on my high definition TV using a HDMI cable but the picture on the TV looks scrambled. I guess it's not as simple as just connecting the cable, any idea's?

I use a DVI output on my graphics card and have a DVI-HDMI cable. Works fine but I don't have a high definition tv, it's just a regular plasma. Are you using the standard graphics output on the card? the 15 pin D connector?

It will vary depending on TV brand, video card brand, video card drivers. Some video cards do well detecting the TV and resolution while some do not. Mine hooks up great to my sony sxrd 60" at 1920x1080 but I have to change res to 800x600 before I restart and switch back to my LCD, otherwise it gets scrambled on the LCD. The drivers do not detect and switch back to the correct res for my LCD. It use to not do this with an earlier version driver. Make sure your using the correct cable as stated above by DM.

So make sure you have latest drivers.

Do not hot swap. Turn system off, hook up HD TV and boot systemt to see if it displays then.

Do not try to run two displays. Even if the system is capable of this the drivers still might not work correctly.

Before trying to switch to the HD screen, set your resolution to a 800x600 x60hz. If it displays then set the res to match the native res of your HD tv.

Cool another Sony SXRD 60". She works beautifull.

I think thier suggestions are correct. PC video out-DVI-HDMI then to HDMI in on the TV. But the key is that the video card, drivers & HD TV can all support each other at the target resolution & refresh. And TV brands to video card brands make a difference. Before I bought everything last year I checked for compatibilities to make sure it would go smoothly.

I run a Dell XPS 1710 dual core with a NVDIA Geforce Go 7900GTX. The DVI out supports full HD @ 1920 x 1080 and the SXRD can support the input. But I couldn't get it working at full HD until a driver realease early this year. The NVDIA control panel now even recognizes that its a Sony HD TV. Don't know how, but it just showed up in the settings. Now she works beautifull but I had to use the resize HDTV desktop to get it to fit proeprly. The full 1920x108 was just a little bit off screen. Resized to 1824x1016 & fits perfect. And all I can say is . (Playing Bioshock,HL2 or Fear on the Sony is totally wicked also!)

So having everthing matched and then the latest drivers. Start with lower resolutions and work your way up.

cheers,
Mat

Thanks for all the suggestions, as soon as I got off these 12-14 hours shifts we'll give them a try. In the meantime I make sure all the driver are up to date. Any tip and tricks to updating? My system is a,
HP Pavilion Entertainment PC
with a GeForce' 7600 by Nvidia
running on Windows Vista.

I have both 15 pin D-connector and HDMI connector on the TV and Computer, but for simplicity I would like to use the HDMI.

Edit:
The NVDIA control panel only show the laptop display as an option, do I have to have the TV hooked up to get other options?

I can't find where to check for driver updates , I thought it would be in the NVDIA control panel.

Yes the TV needs to be hooked up to access any settings pertaining to that display.

Go to nvidia.com , choose download drivers (first button on top left) and use the pull down menus to select your card and OS. See what the latest version is and compare it to yours before downloading to make sure you dont already have the latest.

Check your current version under Nvidia Contorl Panel.. help then system information.
